Regardless of the reasoning, it had to be a pretty tough position for Gaudreau. It sucks it went the way it did but what's done is done. He's still a fantastic player and can be a difference maker on any team he plays for. He just can't be the "main" piece, especially when it comes to the playoffs IMO

It'll be interesting to see how his season goes.

Haven't seen this thread this month, so i figured i would bump it with this from Emily Kaplan. Says he wouldn't change his decision, but also adds he doesn't know if he would do free agency again.

Because the process to find his new home wasn't easy.

"Honestly if I had to do free agency again, I don't know if I would've done it," he said. "The fan base in the city you're in wants you back, that's hard on you as well. It was a pretty rough two-to three months there."

He knows that people will always talk, but there was one narrative that didn't sit well.

I love the city here in Columbus, I love the team here, I'm really excited to be here. Even if it wasn't the start we wanted, I wouldn't change my decision for the world."

He's a dope for not making up his mind sooner. People go to FA all the time without this much fanfare.

If you want to test the market, your agent leaks that info beforehand so teams can prepare, then you go test the market.

If you don't want to leave, then sign the best deal you can with your team.

His own indecisiveness about staying or leaving was the cause of his stress (and caused him to lose money).

I believe him in he wasn't chasing money . The money wasn't chasing him like he thought so HIS agent contacted a team who never even thought they had a chance after all his #1 options told him nah.
