Based on the gap in the lineup, give the guy a shot. As Enoch suggested, he's older and has been through a lot that just might settle him down.

Virtanen isn't smart enough to be the type of player he thinks he is and isn't willing to play physically and with the grit required to be the type of player he needs to be.

He doesn't want to lay big hits or engage physically because he's afraid to get hit. He got dummied as a rookie and predominantly became a shrinking violet perimeter player.

I mean if he is how I hear then he’s a great fit for the Oilers franchise.
If he’s changed and has become a more respectable person and decent hockey player then he’s a good fit for the Flames.

Only time will reveal his character.

I wouldn't put it past Staples to float out the Flames name simply to protect their fanbase from insults.

If the Flames were in on him it takes away our moral high-ground. I'm going with this theory until proven wrong because Staples is a weasel and would do something like that.

Maybe. I've met a few 50 year olds that haven't matured.

Meh,

Whether or not Virtanen has matured, no idea. But for some to suggest this is a sign of moral failing - I mean, this is a franchise that employed Todd Bertuzzi and Bryan Marchment, among others.

At the end of the day, fans of any franchise will forgive just about anything if you win. Calgary is no different than any other franchise.

I trust that Sutter wouldn't allow him to be brought into the fold if he has serious character issues, so I'm really not concerned about this whatsoever.

Even factoring in such things as culture shock, Virtanen didn't find his game in the KHL.

On ice incidents vs off ice

Major difference between kneeing a guy in a hockey game and sexual assault

This is probably it and Trelving should kick his both his and Stauffer's ass for starting the "rumour". Has anyone else outside of the Oilers market even independently mentioned that the Flames were interested.

I smell a rat.

It makes sense to randomly attach Virtanen to Calgary since he has a history with the city.

As was said, off ice versus on ice, and also under different management regimes (acknowledging Sutter was GM). And the Flames didn't exactly benefit from those two signings.

And for the record I was against the Marchment signing anyway. To me he was always deliberately dirty and dangerous versus Bertuzzi who just lost it and made a stupid play.

What latest 32 Thoughts is Virtanen mentioned? Wasn't the last podcast I don't think. Hasn't been a blog in a bit either or has there?

Seriously, this thread was the first time I've seen his name mentioned in some time.

It was Stauffer. It's something he frequently does. Staples never would because he doesn't know anything, has no sources, and everyone is aware of this.

My coffee mug beat Jake Virtanen in a game of Trivial Pursuit. Quite easily too.

My apologies. It's hard to keep track of what buffoon said what idiotic thing on any given day up there.
