I personally think the Panthers are in for a bit of a rude awakening regarding Tkachuk, and I say this as someone who is a big fan of the game he plays. But I do think his play in reality doesn't often live up to his reputation.

I also have doubts he can put up 100+ points without a player like Gaudreau, and ironically the Panthers traded their Gaudreau to get Tkachuk.

Tkachuk definitely needs to play with a great player to be successful...which he might, but that leaves a massive hole on their 2nd line vs. last season.

He is a star player in and around the net...he is Lucic everywhere else

I'm not sure Tkachuk can carry a line like Huberdeau can.

Tkachuk will of course play with great players, but Barkov will be the go-to man in Florida.

Tkachuk was putting up pretty good points with Backlund as his centre.

Until last year, he only played with Johnny on the PP, IIRC.

Yup, I was just about to say that Tkachuk has already been successful without playing with great players on his line, unless you feel that Backlund and Frolik are great players. While Backlund is an extremely solid and a bit underrated player by many fans, he's not Johnny or Lindholm in terms of chance creation.

The 3M line was the Flames best line one of those years and was better than the Johnny, Monahan, Lindholm line.

Successful yes...major star worth the equivalent of 4 firsts no

I don't think anyone is saying Tkachuk is bad just over rated. Their GM called him generational. And yeah he had 77 points with those two but a lot came on the #1 PP with the big boys.

Tkachuk was terrible in the bubble season until Darryl put him with Gaudreau

Zito must have seen all the between the legs goals, and labeled him generational.

Tkachuk and Bennett can go enjoy the beach for all I care, good riddance honestly. Tkachuk as far as I’m concerned was all talk no show when it came to big moments, would always be the first to say how they need to be better starting with him after things like the Colorado series or missing the playoffs by 2 points in the Covid year but always seemed to be part of the underlying problem at hand which included much of the core that has since all but moved on.

Sutter said it in the videos this off-season, this was the one of the most worst conditioned teams that he had inherited and that he had to work to instil a culture and work ethic that demands winning. Also mentioning that the new additions are bringing these intangibles and qualities along with them and I can’t help be feel like that was Sutter alluding to how there were certain attitudes in that locker room from before. Those attitudes I believe came from Bennett and Chucky though obviously that’s just an opinion and it’s not really based on anything tangible other than reading between certain lines with regards to Sutter and how he views last years roster and achievements versus the plan for this year and the new look flames.

Long winded reply, tldr I don’t miss Bennett or Tkachuk all that much lol.

Another poster said it perfectly. We lost boys and replaced them with men. After this stress inducing summer I'm really looking forward to the season.

A lot of the usual questions and answers; I did enjoy Huby's comment that he went to Costco and apparently didn't get mobbed (lol).

Huberdeau and Weegar both don't have "I'm a celebrity/famous athlete" looks to them. I'm sure they'll become more recognizable as the city sees them in clips/interviews/highlights, more.

I know people keep saying it, but it's true. I watch clips like that and I'm still stunned at the return Treliving got from Florida. Just an amazing piece of work by him. Really saved the season, as well as the next few seasons. Incredible.

I think that like 1/4 of my posts since summer are referencing this interview so sorry everyone, but - in the Episode of the Hockey PDOCast where they brought on Thomas Drance who used to be the Panthers PR guy. He said Huberdeau was unique from most hockey players in that he welcomes being the star and the face of the franchise and all the extras and media stuff. He doesn't have to be coaxed and prodded into doing it, he embraces it. Seems like a good captain pick to me

“I know a lot of people were saying that: ‘Play one year [in Calgary] and then play for Montreal,’” Huberdeau told the 32 Thoughts podcast.

“As much as I love Montreal, I dunno. I think it’s a tough city for a French-Canadian. Calgary traded for me. If Montreal wanted to trade for me, they would’ve traded for me. That’s how I see it. And I want to play for a team that wants me. Calgary wanted me, so that’s why I wanted to sign a big extension.”

...

On Thursday at the Players Media Tour outside Las Vegas, Huberdeau took to the ice in a crisp Flames sweater and his new number, 10, for the first time.

He loved the red.

Now, Huberdeau is hoping MacKenzie Weegar, the other Panther featured in the trade, also signs long-term with Calgary.

“I believe in this team,” Huberdeau said.
