If the cap rises as much as some analysts are suspecting from a post-covid bounce, this contract will look amazing and remove any concerns about the later half of it IMO

Pretty much but even if it blows up in their face and fails, it was still the right choice. Either pony up or we don't get him, simple as that. Either rebuild or try to win, trade him or sign him, it's not complicated. I was okay with either direction and a rebuild is inevitable anyways eventually, a few extra years of huberdeau being overpaid by 2m down the road isn't going to make a difference IMO

So with Tkachuk out that leaves at least 70-80 points that need to come from somewhere on the team.

Maybe internally we can count on Toffoli, Coleman, and Dube adding 30 more combined in year over year improvements.

Full year of Ruzicka will add in 20 points instead of Ritchie and Richardson.

If the Flames can find a 50-60 point top six forward than they have replaced Tkachuks offense internally.

Who is that person?
How much will it take to get them?
IMO, Tkachuk will not get to that level in points, or play any time soon. He no longer has a great playmaker on the other side of the ice.

Johnny will not be the same, impactful player in Columbus. Patrick Laine is good, but I don't see him at the same level for a bit, if ever.

This is the biggest take away for me.

Nit pick and analyze Huberdeau all you want for the next 8 years, but unless there was a better package offered Tree played his best hand possible.

He loves using his long reach to open up lanes, and his back hand is just as good as his forehand.

I'm excited to watch, I think he'll work great with Mangiapane, who seems to be able to get to the open ice spots and has an under rated one timer.

There's a guy named Lindholm who also is good at finding quiet spots and getting shots off. He could have potted 50 plus last year, largely due to Johnny's setups. So if he's working on that shot this summer, he still might get that chance as the new Jon seems to be pretty good himself at setting guys up.

If Huberdeau can help make players that were nearing bust status like Bennet and Duclair into 30 goal scorers one has to wonder what he could do for Lindholm. No slight to Johnny here but I don't think there should be much of a drop off in Lindholm's production as you can make the argument the Huberdeau is an even more accomplished setup man.

Exactly. What's thee point of even trading for him if you aren't willing to pony up the cash and term to get him locked up?

The question everyone should be asking. How will Huberdeau do with Sutter leading the way?

“He wants you to play defensively, too, 200-feet game. That’s what I want to do,” Huberdeau said. “I learned a lot through the years that that’s how you’re going to win the Stanley Cup. He won Stanley Cups with L.A. That’s what you want, a winning coach. He has a lot of experience.

“I think I’m going to get out there and I’m going to listen to him, and he’s going to push me and I’m ready for it.”
Yup.

He could very likely repeat his 115 point season playing with Lindholm under Sutter. Especially if Tre finds a right winger for them.

$84 Million dollars ought to make anyone happy.

I do like his enthusiasm though.

He was clearly blindsided when Florida traded him and probably was a bit shell-shocked, but it's great to see he's shook that off and embraced all of this so quickly. Can't wait to see him on the ice in Flames colours.

Yeah, I mean he' was left to his own devices to get something done up in a couple days and outbin Montreal, but that looks like a 2022 Olympic font and number.
