So like what the Tampa Bay Devil Rays do?
Not the worst model to emulate.

I'd have much preferred they beat the price Seattle gave for Bjorkstrand, even - obviously not the same tier of player but the cap space is just so much more valuable right now than anything else, and of all the high-earning player types, scoring wingers are the least valuable assets based on the transactions we've seen this summer. Even on that front, if you were going to allocate cap space to a scoring winger, the better bet would be to pay Mangiapane whatever it took to lock him up for 8 years than do this.
I wouldn't have given him 10 million per and I wouldn't have given a term over 6 years. Even 6x9.5 is a bit risky from where I sit. This deal is absurd.
Hope I'm wrong... and hope Weegar comes in for a more reasonable figure.

I don’t think the last 4 years matter. The team will need to rebuild anyway at that point so during those rebuilding years having overpaid guys doesn’t really matter. So term isn’t really an issue. The extra 500-750k hurts but I think the other option was burn it to the ground. I prefer this deal to that

This. So much this for all the rebuilder posters.
All youre asking for is vicious circle after vicious circle and hoping entry level contracts, mid tier fa's and lightning in a bottle happens once every couple decades.

You pay for elite talent. Would 9.5 have been better? It's a tiny difference in the grand scheme of things. If it prevents you from signing an expensive depth player, great.

True. Maybe we'll promote the farm more now that they'll playing directly in front of us and management.

If a pennant, a division and a wild card berth the last three years running is nothing in your books, you might want to consider a broader version of winning or success.

Great stuff! Treliving did the unimaginable with his back against the wall. Can’t wait to watch this years team. Good news is, I don’t think they’re done yet!

It is a massive contract that has risk, no doubt about that. Honestly, there was no way Huberdeau could refuse it. I'm not doing victory laps by any means until I see it play out on the ice.
But honestly, I don't know if this franchise could suffer the alternative worst case scenario of seeing another star player leave within the same calendar year as two others. It would be devastating to the image of the team, city and the long term viability of the franchise. They absolutely had to get it done and both Huberdeau and his agent knew that.
I am glad it's done, but if the results don't play out on the ice, I reserve the right to complain about it then. Until then, just go with it man!

Ah so what youre saying is its better to tear down, go thru years of suckage to be above average?
Kinda like the Conference and division titles the Flames have won lately... Doing the opposite of what youre proposing.
Youre nailing it here.

Paying a superstar 1m "too much" is pretty inconsequential if that was even the case.
Paying 12m for players like Lucic and Mony is what hurts. I really hope 23 can get back to some of his former self for his sake and the teams.

That’s between him and his wife at this point. Maybe he takes the Jackets to the cup, or maybe he doesn’t.
I think we all need to let JG lie in the bed he made. Good or bad. It was his call.
Lets all check back in 10 years and judge then. For now lets all cheer on the team we stay loyal too.

Better not be. Ain't into giving Valimaki away for free in Oct (non waiver-exemp and definitely not replacing any one in the starting 6/7).
Let's see dem moves.

I don't think you know how the MLB playoff systems work.
If the Flames had lost in the finals, conference finals and division finals in the past three years CP would be overjoyed.
