He didn’t know what the Columbia (or any other offer) was going to be when he rejected Calgary’s 10.5. So he didn’t know at the time he’d be taking less (though overall he was bound to lose a year).
Although if the report from Steinberg (?) was correct, he could still have had 10.5 x 7 (or more) from Calgary on the 13th.

I really think a long-term deal gets done with Tkachuk before the season starts. He's negotiating now as a 104 point scorer. He's lost his 115 point linemate who had the primary assist on a pretty big chunk of his goals. If he leaves it and negotiates next year will be it be as a 104 point scorer? I have my doubts. That's not even a knock against Tkachuk. It's just math and common sense. Another Gaudreau isn't getting dropped into the lineup tomorrow.
The Flames also need to do something because they can't let another American winger go to UFA. Both sides have incentive to get something done which hopefully ends up in a deal that makes both sides happy.

At the risk of being called a Debbie Upper, I think Chucky at $11.5M is going to be considered a steal for 5-6 of the 8 years of that contract, with the other 2-3 being considered fair value or at the very worse "a slight overpay but still tradeable."

ohhhh right. couldn't he change mind and still sign with flames after seeing other offers? forgive me i don't know much about the rules of free agency
Yeah, all the bizarre behavior came out after he retired, right? As far as I can remember, he didn't do or say anything tarnishing the logo on the front of his Flames jersey.
in my mind is still my all time favorite , very skilled, i think he was screwed over that year he tried the comeback he absolutely deserved a look after that pre-season, i mean we signed jagr and he couldn't even keep up! They must have turned him down over something off ice.

Yeah, I don't know. I was kinda bumped that the Flames didn't offer him a contract. Not even an entry level contract.
The deal with Fleury, that he agreed to, was he had to make the top six in order to make the team. He didn't, so he was released.
How is that really a deal? Top six is rather arbitrary and I honestly don’t believe Flames felt they were cutting their 7th best forward. If he was that good, he gets picked up by someone else.
It’s a story that makes everyone feels better but of course Fleury can’t keep his mouth closed.

Fleury had to be one of the top 6 wingers at camp. It was a handshake deal between him and Darryl.
Sorry to kill the mood, but I was there watching Fleury play during that comeback, and there was no way he was making the team. His head and his hands were still there, but the rest was not. I know that he did extremely well in the fitness testing, but his feet had become slow, and he was only playing short shifts because he was gassed after 15 seconds on the ice. He would have been sent down to the AHL, where he would have taken ice-time away from some of our prospects. I think the notion that Fleury was cheated is romanticism.

The longer this plays out the more I think this has got to be the worst off-season in my time as a flames fan. No it’s not over so maybe there’s a chance for us to dig out of this (dig up, stupid!) but I’m not liking the off-season to date lol.

Ya, it's not great. The fact that none of our RFAs have deals is crazy. Like they can't get anything done after 7 weeks.
I saw something that Laine wasn’t going to file for arbitration by sundays deadline, does that mean all RFAs have to file before sometime today to be eligible for arbitration?
