At the risk of being called a Debbie Upper, I think Chucky at $11.5M is going to be considered a steal for 5-6 of the 8 years of that contract, with the other 2-3 being considered fair value or at the very worse "a slight overpay but still tradeable."

Interesting projections for Eat Bread as well.
Then there's the UFAs everyone's watching...
In other yrs, this site has been pretty accurate, but even they've admittedly surprised by some of the contracts this yr.

What was their prediction for Gaudreau?

I think it would be poetic justice if Tkachuk ended up signing for the same 10.5 x 8 that Gaudreau turned down.

And we go on a run all the way to SC final! And Columbus miss the playoff.

That's a good question. Along those lines, I'd also like to see what they think Tkachuk would get if he was a UFA on the open market right now.

Evolving Hockey has IIRC been pretty accurate in the past. But maybe this year their aim is off to the high side. At least for upper end contracts. They missed Gaudreau by over $1M.
That said, if they ranked him 7th in GAR, he’s paid 14th. But some IMO higher are clear overpays especially for what they bring now - Karlsson, Toews, Seguin, Eichel, Tavares. So he’s not really that underpaid, if at all.

Did they really miss on Gaudreau? JG took a discount. The Flames offered him $10.5m AAV

He's still one of my favorite Flame, he was a heck of a player for the Flames. I don't pay much attention to what he said after he retired.

Yeah. Fleury had and has the faults that go along with his virtues.
He never listened to anybody when they told him he was too small. He never listened to anybody when they told him he wouldn't make the NHL. He never listened to anybody when they told him he couldn't be an impact player. He never listened to anybody when they told him to lie down and accept abuse, or when they told him he couldn't overcome it.
Unfortunately, he never listened to anybody about some other things when he should have listened.
You have to take the rough with the smooth.

His shorthanded hat trick still amazes me. It was electric to watch. When it came to overcoming odds, he was pretty amazing.

This is part of the reason why I tried to cut him some slacks, it's difficult to imagine what he went through, what the monster James did to him.

it's absolutely why his behavior is bizarre, there's no way he doesn't have problems from the trauma of the abuse and the years of drug abuse he used to cope.
It broke him and that's sad.

Yeah, all the bizarre behavior came out after he retired, right? As far as I can remember, he didn't do or say anything tarnishing the logo on the front of his Flames jersey.

Yes, because they projected a 7 year contract meaning he’d be a UFA and not an extending player. JG did not take a discount - he took the highest offer left after he made a bad choice.

He didn’t know what the Columbia (or any other offer) was going to be when he rejected Calgary’s 10.5. So he didn’t know at the time he’d be taking less (though overall he was bound to lose a year).
