I like Tkachuk but I dont like the idea of giving him 10.5 m and making him the face of the franchise. I dont think he is that guy for us. I think fair would be at or around his qualifying offer on a long term deal, anymore and you have to explore trading him.

I don't mind making him the face at all, but truth be told 9 million a year long term has to be the Maximum.

I dunno, to me it just seems fitting to have a rugged power forward who can fight and score 40 goals as the face of this franchise.

Fight badly and score 40 goals while getting setup by the best winger in the league, sure. I like Tkachuk I really do, but hes not that guy in my opinion. Hes more Theo then Iggy if that makes sense.

Really? A young player 1 year away from UFA coming off a 100+ point season and you are drawing the line at 9M? One thing many Calgary Flames fans exceed at on here is undervaluing our players.

How is that remotely a good example? Theo Fleury got over 100 points in a season playing on a line with Paul Kruse and German Titov. He might be a nutjob now but Fleury was the definition of fiery hard working player, more than even Iginla imo.

The question is how long does Treliving have to get something done with Tkachuk before he is forced to trade him. At this stage the money doesn't matter because the Flames will likely give him more than he will get anywhere else and it's a matter of being straight up and getting an answer to the question of if he wants to stay with the Flames long term. If it's all about money with Matthew then there's no reason Treliving can't get something done.

Let's also not forget the guy who got 40 goals being set up by the best winger in the league also got 34 playing on the 2nd line with Backlund and Frolik. It's not like 40 is outside his regular wheelhouse with 1st line minutes.

It's unfortunate the Fleury's post career persona has ruined his image to a lot of fans, but he was a heck of a player. On ice, he is still my favourite Flame of all time.

I think Tkachuk takes a step back points wise without having Gaudreau, but I think he takes a step forward in leading and becoming “the guy”
I think he’s going to enjoy being the guy and we’re going to see his game grow.

The last time Fleury got 100 points, Kruse played only 27 games and Titov wasn't even on the team. You appear to be misremembering.

Higher than I'd like to see for Chucky - thoughts?
Interesting projections for Eat Bread as well.
Then there's the UFAs everyone's watching...
In other yrs, this site has been pretty accurate, but even they've admittedly surprised by some of the contracts this yr.

That's true. Just saying that even Fleury needed some high-quality help to break 100.

Iginla won an Art Ross too. Tkachuk was top 10 in scoring though but 2nd on his line in scoring.
I said it before though if you want 8 years it's going to be close to $11 mil or at $11 mil. If you want $9 mil you're getting him for 3 years

I still think 8 years is going to be $11 mil or right around there.
As soon as they introduced max term on contracts it creates turnover for teams. The NHL isn't like the NBA yet but max term is 7 and 8 years but GM's need to get that sometimes this is how it's going to be and they need to accept that sometime you might lose 2 stars in 1 off-season.
But this won't be the last time we see this happen to a team. Stock pile assets this year, trade Tkachuk and build for a year or 2 and then be like the Sens and take guys from other teams that are looking to sell a couple of off seasons from now. Players aren't loyal so why should the team be?

I got no problem with 8 x $11 but I would want a 10 team list on the NMC.

Out of thanks, but that sounds reasonable.
I think it would be poetic justice if Tkachuk ended up signing for the same 10.5 x 8 that Gaudreau turned down.
