Playing hardball with Tkachuk will not get you anywhere. He has all of the leverage.
Don't go into a gunfight with a jack knife.

Why would he want to just “go to UFA anyway” if he’s on the Blues?
Or the Rangers?
Or Bruins?
Or Capitals?
Or Kings?
I’d expect he couldn’t sign on that dotted line fast enough.
You can’t trade him to Buffalo or Columbus, fine.
But you’re not playing hardball saying “give us five teams you’d like to go to” when the guy doesn’t even have a NTC.

A sign and trade of Tkachuk for a blue chip and a 1st rounder would be sweet.

A sign and trade has literally never happened in the history of the NHL. I don't see this situation any different...

Because he doesn't care what team he plays for. He wants the biggest contract he can get, and the best way to get that is to be the top UFA on the market and let the bidding war commence.
I don't know for sure that Tkachuk is thinking that way, but it would be right in line with the family tradition.

It’s kind of happened with RFAs.
More so that the team is given permission to work on a deal with the player and the trade is dependant on the deal being done.
It looks like this just happened with LA and Fiala…as he was signed minutes after being traded there.

I wouldn't say it wont happen given this situation. Tkachuk's wont sign a offer sheet out of fear of Calgary matching it and he'll be where he MAYBE doesn't want to be.

That's still trading for his rights, not signing him to an 8yr deal because you're the only team that can, then trading him.

Hossa was a sign and trade, but not in the current era in order to gain an additional 8th year. He's the only one I can think of.
Marián Hossa signed a 3 year, $18,000,000 contract with the Ottawa Senators on Aug. 23, 2005.
Traded Aug 23, 2005 from Ottawa to Atlanta.

That’s just Flames sadness talking. They are still no good.
Unless you believe
-woodcroft really is a coaching savant
-nurse is a dominant top 10 D. Ceci kulak and Bouchard are top 4 D
-30 yr old Campbell will become a consistent starting goalie despite never having done it so far
- Kane will manage to not implode.
I don’t. They are still a bad team.

Welp, I stand corrected.
Still don't think it's the likely scenario.

Dreger and others reporting that Kadri has a good amount of presentations that teams have made to him and he is going through all of them and that a decision may not come today.
Islanders reporter saying the Islanders have made an offer to Gaudreau. FourthPeriod saying Devils seem to be the front runner with the Islanders the only other team in the mix.

If all he cared about was money, then simple math would tell you he’s extending with the team who can give him the most of it.
That’s us.
He doesn’t want to stay here.
So find somewhere he’d accept, and move on.

All of those things don't need to be true for them to have success. Hard to see how they didn't upgrade their goaltending, they've brought back Kane who took them to another level on the ice, and the addition of Connor Brown is really intriguing.
We'd realllly need to wear rose-colored glasses to not feel like that's a more competitive roster than the one that just made quick work of us in the playoffs.

No one considered them a contender last year and they are bringing the same team back with Kane and Nurse getting big raises.
We just sucked more than anything. McDavid hits another level against us and Markstrom can't play against him. More a Calgary issue than anything.

Don’t need it to be a sign and trade, just to someone who he agrees to extend with

Dynamics in the locker room will definitely be interesting. With Gaudreau gone, the vet faction and the Swedish faction are likely to have a lot more sway. I wonder how those guys feel about Tkachuk. His antics?

They cared a lot less about his antics when he was scoring at a 100 point clip all season.

You think Gaudreau was protecting Tkachuk?
Be interesting to see what Tkachuk does now that hes not constantly outnumbered after the whistle.
