Up to 8.4 mil is a first/second/third, but the Flames would need to get their 3rd back to do it.

I'm pretty tired of being a fan of a Canadian Prairie based team and always having the deck stacked against us, and then to make matters worse this franchise can't get a new arena built which makes attracting/keeping talent even harder than it already is.

And to top it all off, the idiots to the North of us happened to actually get an arena built and lucked out when they won the McDavid lottery, both of which make bringing in and keeping talent much easier than it is for the Flames and that's despite being one of the worst run franchises in sports for the last 15+ years.

I am leary of Kadri he is 32 and we cannot afford his anchor of a contract 4 years down the road.

It would basically nullify any benefit of cap flexibility not having 33 year old JG would afford.

Let Kadri sign elsewhere for the money. I think that's what he's after. He just had a career year and won his Stanley Cup.

I bet you he ends up in Seattle or an East Coast team.

We’re either going to rebuild, sign Kadri, or trade for JT Miller

Hopefully, because someone trades for Tkachuk, Lindholm or both.

Kadri is gonna get $50M over the next 7 years.

What contender or borderline contender wouldn't part with a 1st, and two prospects to get a Selke-finalist centre signed for 2 more years @ $4.8M.

One thing I'll say...Katz is a better owner than Edwards.

He was able to get an arena deal across the finish line.

He actually embraced a true re-build...maybe actually a bit too much...but in the end it got them McDavid.

Prepare to be disappointed. Flames won't rebuild at least until next deadline or offseason.

They were trying to win when they got McDavid they just sucked that bad...he didn't embrace anything.

City gave him what he wanted on the arena deal

I’m weary of bringing in anyone over five years. If we look at the GM Sutter days, and even looking at others’ signings for long term deals, very few players live up to their long term contracts. It comes down to professional discipline, health, injuries, and natural progressions. When a player takes up a large amount of cap space those can be team killers. Those contracts should be given out yo surefire franchise players who have a high chance of living up to that billing. If it’s a cog player as many FA are, most teams are taking a lazy approach to just get it done and worry about the future ramifications later. Tampa Bay today is making some big mistakes that are going to be felt later down the road by giving out those long term high value contracts that don’t tend to age all that well. At least the chances are they won’t. Big gambles and some of them just come from ownership pressure IMO.
