The embarrassing part is even with that, they haven't been able to win.
That's because they also hand out star-type contracts to junk players. Using them as an example of anything good is no way to make your case.

Have cautiously posted this a few times previously, but don’t discount the impact Treliving’s treatment of Gaudreau and Mangiapane in their respective RFA negotiations, exile of Michael Frolik, or treatment of Giordano with the expansion draft, has on situations like this. You may not agree, and certainly much more went into this decision, but people (players) don’t forget. Fact.

Yeah but it's a one year rental. I don't see him agreeing to sign long term with any team that trades for him outside of maybe the Blues.

Hey, it's a process.

But it turns out the process was driving over a cliff. Damn.

Not surprised Johnny walks away. Better offer, lifestyle, location, whatever.

He's a damn good player, but overpaying him doesn't help the Flames either, so I'm glad to see no silly offer on the table.

Team is gonna have a weird look next year.

You're an idiot if you think the team should rebuild when we are likely about to lose two 100 point players?

They got swept in the 2nd round with Johnny. I don't see them being better without him. You lose your best player and think you can win a cup...

I think you should probably not be calling others an idiot.

Brad's RFA negotiations are a strong point. Why be kind in RFA bargaining when a guy like Johnny's going to leave you at the altar as he just did? Frolik exiled himself all on his own with his play. What could the Flames have done differently with Gio? Protect him so they could lose a guy like Andersson?

Since Johnny was never going to be traded during the season, what assets could he have fetched once the season was over.

If you think this stings now, just wait til we play the Oilers this season and get blown out.

This team with Gaudreau had a tough time winning, and generating offense in the playoffs. I don’t think that would’ve changed with an $11M Gaudreau signed. Would we all have been as eager to bring the band back if we lost to Dallas in game 7? I’m not too certain. However, this is an opportunity for this team to choose a new direction, and perhaps even a winning one.
Totally agree.

I’m sad we were spurned by Johnny.

But seriously, this team wasn’t good enough with him.

Sucks we couldn’t turn him into something asset wise. But maybe this will be a step forward.

And IMO I think he really only wants to go to 1 or 2 teams to end his career basically for 7 more years, and up to this point those teams didn't seem too hot and bothered about him, but that may have changed in last 36h.

I don't think JG had it made up in his head he was for sure going to go, but if another team that he wanted to step up is stepping up last minute it made the decision easier.

He will be getting paid less wherever he goes.
