It's going to be trificult to focus on anything today until an announcement is made.

Wondering what time CP will crash today and hoping it's a joyful crash.

This is how hockey fan logic works. I suspect every GM in the league has an anti-fan club saying the same sort of thing.
Brad should never be fired. Ever. He is one of the longest serving GM’s in the league. He and Jarmo in Columbus came in around the same time and they both have a similar amount of playoff experience. They are the greybeards of GM’s whose teams have never gone past the second round. They must both stay until their teams make the third round.

If he isn't signed by 5 today it's over.

We won't be able to compete with teams out east without that extra year.

Why 5:00? Don't they have until 10:00 MST?

They do. The Flames still have a little under 16 hours to get it done.

I'm shocked this situation was allowed to get to this point.

Why? This has been coming for a year now. It's not like Treliving can force him to sign. This entire situation is in Gaudreau's hands. I'm just glad there's going to be some closure tonight one way or the other.

Sorry I didn't elaborate.

I feel as if around 5 will be the walk away time for both parties.

At some point you have to prepare for what is coming and if by five no deal is struck I personally believe that no deal will be made.

All personal opinion.

Could you imagine if Gaudreau takes a week or two to decide? I don't know if I can handle much more uncertainty and have been eagerly awaiting some closure to this saga, one way or the other

I think they tried to get a deal done last summer but I doubt Brad was willing to go above 8.5 million a year last summer. So there was some tough negotiations but no deal. Hopefully the Flames can get a deal done today for around 11 million a year.

Who shouldn't have allowed it? This makes no sense.

I'm not saying this wasn't predictable. It is well documented on this very site just how predictable this was and exactly how it could play out. What I find annoying is this very predictable outcome was well documented, very publicly discussed, and the team still couldn't find a way to avoid these very circumstances. That is shocking to me. There are some reasonably intelligent people associated with the team and it still ended up in this situation.

Well, that's a bit like saying you were speeding towards a cliff but at the last minute saying "well...this cliff is a cliff, and there's nothing we could have done about it being there."

It is wild to think that a year ago a good deal of us were saying how much of a disaster it would be to lose Gaudreau to free agency and how bad that is for the health of an organization...and here we are anyways.

Being a Flames fan can be tough, that's for sure. Love the team, warts and all...I just wish at times they were a little less warty.

I hope they get Johnny signed today, because I don't have a lot of excitement about what the team may do in response to losing him - but perhaps I'm wrong and they won't just jump out and spend money tomorrow in a misguided attempt to compete now.
