Interesting, so China and India buy the oil and slightly above the western price from Russia then sell it back to the west taking the profit.
I suppose that would take dollars away from Russia.

Indian newspapers have claim that this has been happening for months now:
Quote:
The South Asian nation is becoming a huge buyer of Russian oil, snapping up crude cargoes that are going unwanted by European importers. And with several European countries and oil majors self-sanctioning Russian purchases and starving themselves of fuel, India is already profiting from selling diesel onward to Europe.

The idea is that China/India buy it at the western set price, with the stick being that they can't use the western banking or insurance apparatus otherwise.

On paper it seems like Turkey got its demands regarding arms embargoes against it, support for more involvement in EU activities and greater cooperation on the Kurdish groups Turkey consider terrorists but it's too early to say how big of a win it is.

The Turkey situation was always posturing and nothing more. It saw an advantageous situation where it could get something in return and they did.
Playing the politics game is part of life.
On a side note, the HIMARS MLRS has been an outright game changer to the benefit of Ukraine. It allows Ukraine to accurately hit military targets well behind Russian lines with an 83km range, and have proven to be quite devastating. It's believed the Putin emergency meeting was related to its use shocking Russian military brass.

Off topic, but IMO it's in Turkey's best interest to resolve their conflict with the Kurds peacefully ASAP. Total fertility rate in Turkey is down to 1.70. For the Kurds it's at 3.40. No one knows how many Kurds actually live in Turkey, but the number could be as a high as 25%, with another 20 million Kurds on their borders. The math isn't in Turkey's favor.

Really hope this isn't true, but looks like the EU is starting to ##### out on sanctions on Kaliningrad.
Quote:
Trade through Lithuania to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad could return to normal within days, two sources familiar with the matter said, as European officials edge towards a compromise deal with the Baltic state to defuse a row with Moscow.
|
Quote:
"We have to face reality," said one person with direct knowledge of the EU discussions, describing Kaliningrad as "sacred" for Moscow.
"(Putin) has much more leverage than we have. It's in our interests to find a compromise," he said, conceding that the eventual outcome may appear unfair.

I have to think that they must have intelligence that suggests a real possibility of escalation if the blockade of Kaliningrad continues. There is probably something they know that they don't want to share.
Kind of telling though that Lithuania is against lightening up when they are the ones that would be directly in the line of fire if things escalated.
NATO has to be careful how these wedge issue affect their alliance.
