Just rewatched the ESPN feed from last night. Having Leah Hextall between the benches was pointless. They went to her like twice between the entire game and no comments about the chirping between Tkachuk and dirtbag in the box. And they didn't even show the Shilly smile... Major missed opportunities.

I don't think they want to come across as over confident, especially after such a weird game. On paper the flames totally dominated, but there were a ton of goals.

If the Flames can come out tomorrow and again double up on the Oilers in scoring chances and high danger chances, then I think people will start to believe it could be a shorter series.

I still think it goes 6 games.

If anything, it's also good marketing for the Sens. Everyone know he is a Senator and committed to a long term contract with them. The hockey world also sees him as someone with some personality and character which will draw more fans toward their team. Part of drawing fans is getting people connected to the players.

First the BOA hasn't really existed in decades. Games with the Flames for years have been fairly indistinguishable from others. I've never subscribed either that there was a battle with the Flames. In our glory years we usually rolled the Flames. Doesn't battle constitute that there is one?

In these "battles" the Oilers have always had the far more talented team and the Flames have had the lunchbuckets trying to bring hockey down to a primitive level. I never looked forward to series with the Flames, thats giving them too much credit. I looked forward to series against say NYI, Chi, Bos, Philly, more talented clubs than Calgary Flames had and that would actually try to play hockey. My sum experience with Flames series is expecting the worst play and conduct from the Flames and never being disappointed.

For Calgary this is always a battle because its their mountain to climb. Conversely I've never been excited with the Oilers facing the likes of Jim Peplinski, Tim Hunter, and the rabble. Uniformly the Flames, from a hockey standpoint, were always the worst of the teams we would face to watch. I guess people look at it from a drama standpoint. But I enjoy watching clubs other than Calgary. I hate watching the Flames anytime, but this is where we're headed.

I'll put it this way. Been to a ton of games through 50yrs. I love hockey, love playoff hockey. I've never bought a pro ticket in a game involving the Flames and never would. So many other opponents make for better "hockey playing" opponents. The Flames do something else, that I've always deplored. They bring hockey to the alley, always.

Dude clearly has early onset Ahlzimer's if he thinks the Flames are guilty of Alley Hockey. Semenko LIVED in the Alley his whole career

Oh FFS, they're trying to make Steve Dangle a national thing. His shtick is being a Leafs super fan youtuber who acts like a hysterical man child for content. Normally you can just ignore him, but of course Sportsnet decided he needs to be national.

Regarding Tkachuk coming out of the box first, I have to admit that I was not familiar with that rule at first and was a little puzzled. When the Oilers considered challenging it, I thought there might have been a mistake.

I was listening to CHED for the salt intake after and Rob Brown talked about and said that it was a commonly applied rule that players and coaches know well, but that it isn't something most fans would notice or care about. It makes me wonder why Woodcroft was considering a challenge though. He must have not known about the rule. As a fan, it's understandable, but as a coach, he should probably have known.

It's especially hilarious as the Oilers' fans were acting like they'd gotten the steal of the decade when they acquired James Neal and he had that short hot streak at the beginning of the season.

Looked as though they wanted to challenge the offside not the penalty box thing

I think they were reviewing the potential for offside, not the fact that it was Tkachuk. In the moment, I thought for sure they were challenging because it was Tkachuk who came out first.

Freidge then tweeted the rule out immediately.

From the ATL:

Quote:
Good luck with convincing the inbreds of that. Calgary not surprisingly is one of the most penalized teams in the league this post season and with the most major penalties. Which is surprising because the NHL only calls Calgary on the most egregious infractions, for anything. Apparently Zadorov yelling at an opponent bench that you're all dead, I'm coming for you, in a game in which he got a suspension review for another action, is nothingburger and completely OK. All fits the Parros TM notion of what hockey is. The only thing Lucic can do is charge and punk. He can't play hockey. Like many of the Flames its what he's there for. The Flames have half a dozen players in the lineup that have no other reason for being.
Did Zadorov actually say that they are all dead? The only thing I recall was him saying to Benn is that he was coming for him next. Anyway, pretty rich using the hearing that exonerated him of any wrong doing when they have a player that actually was suspended already in the playoffs.

Oilers Didn't have a time out to challenge anything and that's why the refs told them to get to the faceoff dot.
