Too much fancy nancy passing. This goalie is just big. Just shoot the puck at him and drive the net for rebounds.
We played playoff hockey all season long. Sutter will get them back on track and they will come back up 3-1.

Pretty poor effort. So many giveaways in our own zone and poor passes everywhere else. PP was horrible. No traffic in front of the Dallas net. Easy shutout for the kid.

I missed that, along with the attempts.

Dallas is a bad hockey team, but they are playing perfectly for who they are. Although that still wouldn't be good enough to beat the Flames, however they also have a young goalie who may be the best in the playoffs right now.
Easily could have had 3 tonight despite not playing our best and everyone would be looking ahead to the next series, but he's part of the team and we're going to have to start beating him.

Man, this thread is a train wreck.
Sure, its frustrating to get shut out. But some of the takes in here are pathetic.

Flames have been the better team overall. Need the top line to break through. Dallas doesn’t give up a lot, but they don’t get a lot either.

And now we have a series.
Dallas is happy to clog up the front of their net, but give them credit for getting in on the forecheck. It seems like we’re not able to break out and move the puck as a five man unit — too many times it’s 1 or 2 guys trying to do it themselves.
Oettinger was a bit of a wildcard in this series but he’s a decent goalie and was solid for them. That said, Markstrom was very good too and had some big saves late in the third after some terrible giveaways.
PP had a few looks but not much. Would like to see the middle six switched out as Toffoli needs a better playmaker on his line. Top line had some chances but they don’t look sharp overall.

I paid attention to about 2/3 that 3rd period and I live for playoff hockey. It was kind of boring.... for playoff hockey.

Also, what a boring game to watch. We're easily the most "Monday night game in February" series in the playoffs right now. Just awful to sit through when it's supposed to be crazy hockey.

Tkachuk has definitely been very quiet too.
I might be biased, but from what I've seen that line loses the puck most often because of Gaudreau attempting a pass that has almost no chance of making it to another Flame.
I don't think Tkachuk can be as effective offensively if we give the puck away before he gets a chance to screen/tip/dig for rebounds, or set up behind the net. Likewise, Lindholm doesn't get those onetimers in the slot when the puck gets turned over again and again.
I'm not sure what the adjustment needs to be, but that line hasn't looked dangerous at all yet, other than a 5 second PP goal early in Game 1. Need more offensively from all 3, but Gaudreau obviously stirs the drink on that line when it comes to generating chances.

This is pessimistic, but that was just an unbelievably disappointing game that looked like it came right out of the 2020 playoffs.
We can be content with not being run out of the building, but the Flames should be dictating the pace in this series against the worst 5 on 5 team in the playoffs. Instead, you could barely tell we were the team down a goal with 5 minutes to play.
Every player looked off, but some more than others. It's no longer a coincidence.
Given how mentally weak this team has been in the last 3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't win another game. You hope things will be different under Darryl, but through 120 minutes, you haven't seen it.
Enough of this "tight game that could have gone either way". It shouldn't be. Give this city a reason to get excited.
Don't do exactly what we feared you would.

He's over skating the puck regularly. There's been more than a few instances over the last two games where Johnny has gained the zone, button hooked and thrown it back out to the high slot for a trailer and Chucky is too deep. Maybe it's Johnny missing the pass, but to me it's Chucky not being in the right spot.

And what a stinker. That was maybe the worst playoff game I have ever seen Calgary play.
AHL goalie would have shut us out tonight.

Agree. One of the easiest shutouts I’ve seen.

32 career playoff games and only 2 5v5 goals and 2 5v5 assists.
Onto game 3...

Yeesh that is worrying. I love the guy though, hopefully he makes a difference here on out

The only positive is that DAL is terrible and the Flames cannot play any worse than tonight.
That might have been the worst game the Flames played all season including exhibition games.

Too early to tell but 1 goal in 6 periods is cause for concern.
Also, blaming the crowd is a joke. There hasn’t been much to cheer for and they brought the heat at the right times. Not going to lie, this has probably been the worst series as far as entertainment value. Can only do so much when the game is so boring.
|
Disagree strongly and it’s more of a philosophical difference between your opinion and mine.
Our fans are so entitled. We “need” stuff to cheer for, vs. Trying to get the team going. It’s a fine line and Flames fans were able to cheer and generate energy in a way to make the team believe in themselves in 2004, but when the fans doubt the players or sit on their hands we get what we got tonight.
The last time Flames fans were truly any good was almost 20 years ago. To think that Flames fans are great is what the joke is, they actually are extremely entitled. Flames fans need to realize they are actually a part of the team and the effort. Weak effort and weak building. Maybe if the fans cheered a little more and were a bit louder etc. then the team may have had more juice. There actually have been legit scientific studies regarding the reality of home field advantage in sports, it is an actual phenomenon.
So you can sit there and say “wah wasn’t entertaining enough for me” but then we will perpetually watch first round exits. The reason 2004 was so special was because the fans truly brought the heat pun intended.
You know in a lot of ways, I’m not sure Calgary fans deserve the Flames to be perfectly honest. Might be the most entitled fans in the NHL.

Both games were basically 1-0, it’s the playoffs, playoffs hockey is hard, goalie matchup is on point for both sides. Not panicked in the least, flames will come out flying on the road but it’s still going to be a grind, Dallas and Bowness play a suffocating brand of hockey and once they get even a one goal lead they will happily clog up the middle of the ice and force plays east to west. It’s a chess match and I’m confident in our coach and find it hilarious to see the panic at this stage of the battle. Lots of hockey left!! Sutter will get the boys going Saturday!!

We’ve been totally stymied in front of the net. No real decent tips, tap ins or one timers. Ottinger seems to stop it if he sees it so we need greasy goals. Dallas has done a decent job boxing us out, hopefully we can adjust. I dunno, Ottinger worries me, seems to be in the zone and has our number.
