Same day the Flames acquire a goalie, Oilers trade a goalie to the Sharks.
Is it possible we're getting Edmonton to overpay for Vladar or Wolf?

We have two teams that look to be going on playoff runs, both sitting high up in the standings, this is probably just insurance just in case of injury.

Huh? He had played parts of 4 playoff games and only had 2 starts, with one game won in a series the Sharks lost.

I know the Oilers play like an AHL team but they're not our AHL team. We won't be sending them a goalie to play in case of injury.

No, that is not possible.
Flames make a depth minor league trade for a depth goalie for the farm team. It has zero implications for Calgary.

Maybe the Flames have some sort of trick up their sleeve to change the N to a L and the i to an o in his surname for an April 1st game, and couldn't resist to the urge to do so.

Why would we help Edmonton? Is there really anything besides the top two that we would want?

SPORTSNET: Oilers free up valuable cap space for Cup run, while the Flames continue their goaltending search.

The Flames aren't trading Vladar. They would be an injury away from going into the playoffs with a Wolf/AHL Veteran tandem. They could trade Wolf as part of a big addition, but that's unlikely in a deadline deal.
Barring injury, Wolf is our AHL starter this season and next. Chechelev is a young guy and isn't going to benefit from sitting on the bench in the AHL.
This is likely an AHL vet replacement for Werner. The timing likely as to do with Montreal's lack of space and the free acquisition cost. Plus, a bit of depth certainly isn't bad as both the Heat and Flames ramp up for deep runs.

Mcniven sounds like a fellow who has endured a lot and has shown signs in the past that he has a lot to offer. Maybe we traded for him because he needs a hand. Even if it's someone to tend goal at lower levels, I would rather it go to someone in his shoes.
Quote:
With his team losing 3-0, a simple nod was all it took for McNiven to be placed in the heat of the action. He couldn’t control what was going on with his grandfather, but he could control how many pucks he turned aside.
“He was very strong-willed,” said Walters. “We obviously wouldn’t start him in a situation like that, but he wanted to play for his grandfather.”
McNiven didn’t allow a goal, leading Georgetown to a 4-3 overtime win.
Little did he know it, but McNiven was establishing a pattern that would persist: relying on his second family — his hockey team — when things went wrong at home.
“Michael has gone through more than most,” said Walters.
