If we had any fighter jets we could escort them out of our airspace. Not really sure there is anything we can do. We can fine them and then never collect unless an American airport grounds them until the fine is paid. It's really a difficult situation as anything that could be construed as aggression towards a civilian plane on or over North America invites more problems

Original article is behind a paywall. Apparently they are run by one of Putin's friends; mercenaries were flown in from Africa and offered bonuses.

Like I said, two big reason it wont happen.
But if you're asking the best way to make sure we don't push Russia back only to go through this cycle all over again in the next 30 years. many smaller weaker Russias would be the simple solution

No, it wouldn’t.

US embassy in Moscow asked all US citizens in Russia to fly back home. Those Moscow-NY and Moscow-Miami flights are mostly US citizens coming back. Don't sweat too much over it.

This massive convey that stretches 5+ km's including an insane amount of weapons and equipment and this face to face meeting is interesting. The timing seems to be lining up that this next day or two will be vital for both parties.
If we get into a situation where Russia starts attacking and killing large volumes of civilians with these nasty weapons, how can the west just sit back and watch it happen live on TV and on social media?
This news and the news that Belarus is looking at joining the fight , Putin's rhetoric and more, I still don't see how western countries don't get involved in some capacity.
I really hope some assistance and support, weapons and more arrive quickly today from the west.

I think that's why countries have these volunteer programs In place that allows their citizens to go as private citizens and how ukraine has set up a "foreign volunteer " program . IMO the west is setting up huge loopholes to get troops in but just not having " official " support . Timings of these "loopholes" coupled with the assistance financial aid/ weapon drops . IMO the west will be fighting this war on the ground unofficially but keeping the claim we are not unless putin steps into Nato territory.
It's smart IMO . The west "volunteers"can bolster ground troops and the west can officially deny involvement so any escalation is put in Putins lap for fault.

A plane that serves Moscow-US route needs to fly back to Moscow, doesn't it?

Who not paint a Ukraine flag on some Reapers and hire Ukraine video gamers to pilot them? would be something if a few 18 years took out Putins army from a basement.

No , it dosen't. Sure , go back to Russia but not through our airspace . Time to take the scenic route. Russian aircraft in Canadian airspace means no Russian flights in Canada's airspace.
The company and pilots broke the rules. They should have been punished and held under violating our laws.
We either mean no Russian aircraft in our airspace or we don't. This right now cannot be just a symbolic gesture.

I also had a thought is there a way that Ukraine could unexpectedly declare Lviv the Capital is Russians get to.close to kyiv and funny enough there is precedent i history thanks *ironically* because of the Russians. Peter the great just on a whim declared that st.peterbough would be a better capital city as it was more western and admit more trade and commerce. Than Moscow.
If all does go belly up would this be a play the Ukrainian government could accomplish in short order?

Actually Moscow-New York/Miami flights fly over Sweden as well. Makes me wonder if they are fine with it or not. At this point it's probably Americans, not Russians, who need this flight most. No big deal in the grand scheme of things anyway.
