Yes, my mistake. Somehow I managed to miss Hayes and Farabee on LTIR not counting ATM.

Not sure what the numbers would look like exactly, but for example
June 30th, Sign Tkchuck to 1 year ~$7.5M then July 13th Sign him to 7 year $9.5M
Similar with the other two, you could probably save like $5M for the first year then replacing Lucic/Monahan or renegotiation their contracts should save you $7M - $8M the next season.
|
They have a measure against it. Players that sign a 1 year contract are only eligible to sign an extension starting on January 1. The date could be different now(because of the new CBA), but it should be around the mid-season mark.

They aren’t on LTIR just IR. Couturier and Ellis are LTIR totalling $14M next year. I assume they will be off LTIR.
CF gives them 10m players at $68,171,857. So they need 12-13 guys and have a little over $13M.
Hayes and Couturier are gonna kill them going forward. Ellis too.

Yeah, it's hard to follow on CF with all the injuries. I believe they have ~15.8M available to sign 9 players.
Forwards
1. JVR - 7
2. Atkinson - 5.875
3. Konecny - 5.5
4. Laughton - 3
5. Lindblom - 3
6. Hayes- 7.143
7. Farabee - 5
8. Brown - .750
9. Couturier - 7.75
Total (F) - 45.02
Defenceman
1. Provorov - 6.75
2. Sanheim - 4.675
3. Ellis - 6.25
Total (D) - 17.68
Goalies
1. Hart - 4
Total (G) - 4
Salary Cap - 82.5M
Cap Hit - 66.7
Players left to sign - 9

Thing about Philly is even if they have enough money to sign Johnny, they have no centre. I mean, they have Hayes but I’ve never really thought of him as a C.

Does Gaudreau want to leave a great situation in Calgary to go to a mess in Philly during his remaining prime years? Their defence is abysmal, if anything Philly should be spending there. Their best player is out for at least the season with a major back surgery.
Very unfortunate series of events for that organization. They also lost their only recent high draft pick to a freak medical condition. As crappy as it is for Philly, this all could be the best thing to happen to Calgary though, if it convinces Johnny not to consider going there.

I've always thought Johnny would end up in Philly, but he'd have to be the biggest Flyer fan on the planet to go there right now. They are a complete tire fire. But, as we've all been witness to so far this season, in today's NHL there is a fine line between winning and losing so maybe they would be able to convince him of their vision for building a winner in Philly.
I'm now leaning more to a place like Nashville if Johnny chooses not to sign with the Flames. Players seem to absolutely love it there and they are almost always competitive too. Plus they will need to replace Forsberg if he goes UFA.
In fact, I would not be surprised if those two swapped teams in the off season.
Hopefully I'm wrong though, and Johnny plays his whole career in the Flaming C.

Why in the world do people continually insist upon trying to trade Noah Hanifin? Absolutely puzzling.

I didn't really notice anyone insisting on trading Hanifin. No one is saying send that bum out of town for a bag of pucks. However, in a way losing Giordano and Kylington's progress has people intrigued as to what other prospects might take a big step with a greater opportunity. We have several young up and coming D that might do just that.
Now I think that Noah has taken a huge step forward and has tremendous value, both to this team and in a trade. I'm not too eager trying to replace him, but I also noticed that this team is quite good at developing D.
The easy choice always seems to be moving bad contracts, especially on a successful team. That said it might not be a possibility and the team might(again it's a hypothetical situation) have to move one of Andersson / Hanifin / Kylington / Mangiapane / Toffoli / Coleman just so they can bring back both Tkachuk and Gaudreau. I have no idea which player out of that list I rather lose. For me it would depend on the return and available replacements within the organization.

Couturier? Obviously his back injury is concerning (good for him for cashing in when he did), but as long as he can play he should be a good all-situation player.
Hayes on the other hand delivers about as much offense as Backlund despite getting a lot more oZS. But of course...big=good.
Such a weird team...they've developed a lot of quality players, but they are really just the poster-child for the pitfalls of relying too heavily on UFAs.

Lots of time between now and the off season to change an opinion, but the way it looks right now I don't see any way the Flames would be interested in moving Hanifin/Andersson/Tanev. I think they try to get Kylington locked up and roll with the same very balanced top 4 D going forward.
The problem is going to be supporting the top 4 with a bottom pairing that is as effective (and beefy/mean) as Zadorov/Gudbranson has been this season.
Mackey has some truculence in his game, I'd expect him to move up. Valimaki has talent but is a wild card, as is Kinvall. But not much experience with that trio, you know Tre will be hunting for some veteran D for insurance.

Sutter and the success of this team is the best chance we have to be able to sign either or Tkachuk or Gaudreau.
If they truly want to go to different markets nothing can change that, but at least it won’t be because of a successful team and a chance to win.
I can see us making a run to the conference finals and both Tkachuk/Gaudreau carrying the same Sutter motto of “unfinished business”

I forgot about him. If he’s 100% and at the top of his game maybe. His game fell off this year, his back I guess.

If he’s 100% and at the top of the game, it’s no maybe, it’s a sure thing.
But that may be a big “if”.

Some big decisions in the off-season.
I'm a huge fan of our Zadorov & Gudbranson pairing, and want to bring them back along with the big 2.
This will be at the expense of Mangiapane, Lucic & Hanifin. Two of whom are very valuable assets, that Treliving can leverage in a deal to help liquidate Lucic. And/Or use the assets attained from Mangiapane & Hanifin, to help move Lucic.
Tkachuk & Gaudreau; 8 yrs x $10m
Zadorov; 5 yrs x $4.5m
Gudbranson 3 yrs x $2.5m
Kylington; 3 yrs x $4.5m
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Monahan - Toffoli
Lewis - Ruzicka - Richardson
---Ritchie
Tanev - Kylington
Gudbranson - Zadorov
Valimaki - Andersson

One year from UFA, two straight RFA contracts that Tre squeezed him; one for minimum wage & the other post-arbitration, + Winter suggesting next contract will be short term.

In my view, Andrew will be, over the course of the next three years, among the top five forwards in the game, I really think there’s a lot of evidence to support that, because what’s surprising is that Andrew is accomplishing this, and scoring at this rate, while playing three and four minutes less than the other players, which only tells you those players are playing with the best players on their teams.
|
What do you sign him for? How do you manage the rest of the team?

Start with the Zadorov money.
And if it comes down to Monahan or Mangiapane, you find a way to move Monahan.
