The issue with the Hamonic deal was how high the 1st ended up being.
Hamonic for 12th overall and two 2nds
compared to
Toffoli for a mid 20s pick, a guy drafted in the 2nd round, and a 5th.
I know which deal I like.

a) There is term
b) Connections and coach familiarity
c) Significantly better player than Hamonic ended up being
d) Addresses a glaring need
I'm not worried.

One was on the Flames site... but I heard a quote about being the first one to the arena at 10am that Toffoli said, so I'm looking for that one.

The Habs have to be happy with the asset management. Sign Toffoli as a UFA and go to the Cup finals with him. Then a year later trade him for a 1st and a prospect because he's been able to outperform his contract.
I'm just sad we couldn't get him in 2020; no cap space after signing Markstrom and Tanev though. Although in an alternate universe where Sutter starts the offseason as the head coach, maybe Toffoli picks us instead...

Doesn't the Stanley Cup winner pick 32nd.... I don't understand this mid 20s thing you quoted. (LOL).

You sound like an Oiler's fan saying they didn't need Markstrom. Who were the comparable and cheaper options?

A C+ prospect, late first rounder, 5th and Pitlick is a lot for a consistent goal scorer that plays a 200 foot game? I'd do this deal any day of the week for a team in the Flames current situation.
The prospect, 5th and Pitlick are nothing of substance to this franchise. The first could possibly be a loss, but in reality what would be a late first rounder is not going to help this team in anyway anytime soon.

Wow condescending much?
A) Hamonic had term as well (duh)
B) okay sure
C)Significantly better player (lets just hope thats true)
D)RHS defence is always a need, and a more valuable position than wing
Like i said, exciting aquisition, cost just seems higher than i would have guessed.

I honestly don't think the franchise will give up on Monahan until the off season, but that's the best Flames lineup I've seen since the early 90s. No dead weight and legit players in each of their respective spots.

There's probably still a bunch of suckers out there calling 911 when they have an emergency. Winners call 912.

Love the move. I was worried it would have to include a better prospect than what we included.
I like how early this trade was done. I think that kept the cost down and I've never been a fan of big adds on deadline day.
Just depth pieces needed for a deep run. It will be tough with Vegas in our way.

As you can probably tell from my reply, giving an alphabetised list to someone on a hockey forum containing basic info that any fan has access to, is pretty darn douchy. Have a nice day.

We hire Darryl Sutter

We sign Chris Tanev

This is beautiful.
Thank you.
