I noticed that as well, but didn't want to bring it up and be considered a negative Nelly. If that was the case, send him packing for what you can get.
The bottom line is we got a quality player back for an unsigned asset. We didn't have to give up any of our top prospects. Win for Treliving and the Flames.

I'd guess that at least initially, he'll be on the right side with Monahan and Dube.

The top 2 lines are clicking right now, so I don't see Darryl splitting them up.

I want to love this but in all honesty if he turns out like Richardson and Lewis in terms of production I'm gonna be a little choked!!

I sure he'll be fine and he'll fit in perfectly with his team mates since he already knows allot of em....and 2 coaches as well .

I'm just chomping at the bit too see this team go deep and make whoever they play pay and pay hard .
My biggest fear is another Brouwer, Neal situation which I'm sure won't happen but I'm cautiously optimistic.
Glad Pitlick is gone though.....well enough of my rambling.
I'm glad they are still trying as hard as they are to improve what we Have .

I get that this is a bit of a tongue in cheek comment.

But which contenders have added a top line player using this method for a playoff run?

Tampa used it to keep all their existing players, plus add Savard last year sure.

The Blackhawks used it to help add Antoine Vermette. But you don't see these bigger name types added with this.

If anything I think Treliving and the Flames are seeing things come back in Monahan's game to the point where they decided they better find someone better than Brett Ritchie to try on that line. Hence why the move is made now. If this can get guys like Monahan and Dube back to life, their Deadline shopping list might be a bit different than if one or both of them keep struggling.

And from the sounds of it, he is the kind of player that is okay with finding his spot and won't sweat being a "third-liner". Not like guys like Neal who immediately have a chip on their shoulder because they thought they were guaranteed first line billing, and then pout about it.

In response to EVERLAST, just think of it as Pitlick out and Toffoli in. Of course there's reason to be skeptical, but it immediately improves the entire forward group.

Will be interesting to see what Sutter does, personally the top two lines are rolling if possible leave them alone. I'd try him with Monahan

He scored 28 goals last year. He scored 31 a few seasons before that.

Richardson's highest was 19 and Lewis' was 14.

Toffoli won't be expected to carry the load here. He'll be great on the second line.

It's somewhat steep only if the Flames don't tank to the end of the season. The #1 draft pick won't be high at all. So, it's almost like a 2nd round pick. Tre could've had him at a higher price point 2 years ago on free agency and the Flames wouldn't have had to give up any assets. But hey, at least they picked up the right guy for Sutter!

No kidding. Getting serious dumped ex-boyfriend vibes from these guys.

Wow.

I would imagine they would be thrilled with getting young assets and picks. They are quite obviously rebuilding.

Yea this is what I'm thinking too. If those lines weren't clicking so well it would be an easier decision, but as it is I think you need to leave them alone for now and try him on the third line and second powerplay. Hopefully he finds some chemistry with Monahan.

And then maybe they don't have Tanev, or Markstrom.
I'd say things worked out pretty, pretty good...

Also, I am having trouble following the first sentence. It's steep if the Flames don't tank? Firstly, tanking implies on purpose, which is not going to happen.
Secondly, I think you mean it's steep if the Flames do falter and the pick ends up high...

I love this deal. My only beef is that the first rounder is 2024 not 2023. If gaudreau doesn't re-sign that could be a decent pick.

What does lottery protected mean here exactly? What's deemed a lottery pick? (Top3,5,10,16)??
