Basically Petry's wife and kids have moved back to the US because they found Quebec's COVID protocols are too restrictive for them and the Habs are trying to accommodate a move to make it easier for the family if it makes sense for the Habs.

Good luck with that, 34 years old, 5 points and a $6.25m cap hit for 4 more years

Petry does seem like he has quit on the team. It's not just an off year.
He absolutely fell off a cliff. And not getting in Kassian's face after the dummy hit the Habs' goalie popping his mask off....Petry basically admitted he is afraid of Kassian.

In hockey, more than in any other sport, no one sticking up for a teammate is the first sign of a team that does not care. That becomes doubly true when that teammate is your goalie.
No one did a thing. It spoke volumes, no matter how Jeff Petry – who was first on the scene – tried to explain it.
“Looking back at it, I didn’t see the actual (hit), I just saw Monty going down,” Petry said. “For me, it’s not a place to go and have to fight a guy like that.

Half a season removed from getting Norris votes (3 of them).
And it's 3 full seasons (ie. 3.5 remaining). It's not a great AAV, but could be a worthwhile gamble for a lot of teams...like his homestate team DET (though they moreso need LHD)

Maybe with a sweetener and retention.
Toffoli and Petry retained for what from Calgary?

Petry wants to go to the states where his family is. No one seems to lien Canada protocols. Imagine that lol.

Leddy would be great. He's a great skater, and is a good all-around defenseman. Last year, with the Isles, he put up 31pts in 56 games, but his offense has suffered with the Wings. I think the Isles really miss him, and Toews. Only issue is that he carries a 5.5M cap hit, and is UFA at seasons end. Not sure if Detroit is shopping him, but if they retain, he's ideal as a rental.

It’s hard enough for flames to acquire good players as is. With Canadian restrictions I think it just got a lot harder. Don’t get me wrong I think Canada is taking a better approach than the US .
Also why is Vancouver thinking about trading Garland ? Vancouver needs more players like Garland and Miller not less.

Alberta has easily the least disruptive restrictions at this point.
I think/hope that plays into our favour.
Good time to be Canada's Texas.

Not suggesting it for CGY; I just think it's funny how quickly people think that moderately overpaid players become immovable objects that will require sweeteners.
Just this offseason all of these guys moved for a net positive return:
OEL (albeit a big deal incl. Eriksson and 1M retention on OEL)
Voracek
Ristolainen
Keith
Schmidt
The only true sweetener deals that come to mind in recent memory are Ghost and Marleau, though I'm sure I'm missing some.
I could see a lot of teams interested in Petry - BUF, DET, CBJ are trying to be on the upswing and wouldn't have much trouble with the cap.
DAL doesn't mind being old, will need a replacement for Klingberg, and have lots of cap flex coming up.
PHI - they were clearly chasing offence from the back end with Risto and Yandle this year. Ellis has struggled to stay on the ice for a few years now...1 for 1?
NAS - their RHD are good but still quite young...I'll spitball something like Johansen + Myers for Petry + Drouin (seems weird to me that Drouin is only 26)? Actually RoJo's numbers are better than I thought (especially given he's getting less ice with Duchene/Granlund/FF) , but there could still be a fit between the teams.
NJD - not really a fit given Dougie and Severson, but they could send PK back home!

^^ Petry isn’t just a little overpaid with a little term though. He’s fallen off a cliff.

I agree with the scoring needing a boost, but I'm not entirely sure what the way to go about it really is. I'd love to add a whole new second line that allows them to make Backlund, Coleman, and Mangiapane the third line, and also create a strong 4th line, but that's certainly not happening as it would be nearly impossible cap wise. The aforementioned trio do seem to work okay together, but Backlund isn't scoring at the rate of a top 6 player anymore which makes them more of a 2B type line. Maybe someone to play with Monahan and Lucic and score some goals, push Dube to the 4th line and another guy on the 4th line who can contribute something offensively.
On one hand you don't want to mess too much with what they have. But there are spots in the lineup that need to boost production. Will be interesting to see what the team does. I'd rather not be trading 3rd and 4th round picks for Oscar Fantenbergs.

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens. There's so much to consider nowadays. IMO, I would rather find some youth to integrate into the core, and round out the scoring, like Kravtsov, Debrusk, or Tippett. We could also do well with Miller, or Giroux, but they will be expensive for short-term players. Realistically though, I could really see Toffoli coming here, and much to most fan's chagrin, I could see Gio or Chiarot.

We all know Sutter likes players with size. Rudzicka is 6'4" 220?
Anyone else staring to get the impression that Rudzicka is being groomed to play 3rd line center to facilitate a Monahan trade? Mony IS playing better and other teams NHL scouts no doubt have noticed. Is Monahans little resurgence making him a more palatable trade chip? The team sure needs the cap space.

I don’t get that impression at all. If there is one thing Sutter covets more than size it is experience. I could see Monahan moving in a deal but I think there will be a other bottom 6 center brought in if that is the case
