Sure he can, if you attached a 1st pick to him

You also have to find a team that wants to tank badly

So? Bennett can do many other things that Monahan can’t. Bennett is never a pure scorer and no Barkov is the top line center not Bennett

Hope you are not comparing Monahan with Bennett because that’s dumb

If you pay enough, you can move anyone. Monny has negative value.

^ no, Monahan has positive value. The value might not be very high, but he's not in Ericsson territory.

Monahan's career has been better than Bennetts to this point even with the drop off in production, and Sean had more playoff points with the Flames despite the playoff Bennett hype.

Bennett holds more value currently because his cap hit is smaller.

Butthurt Bennett fanboy here for sure.

He's an alright player. He's gritty too I guess. He's not amazing and he still takes dumb penalties that cost his team.

So? 16 people so far have thanked the post...it was a fun fact and interesting

Just a little reality check for people who think Bennett is a top player...he has played tons of minutes with some of the leagues best on a high scoring team and has one more point than Monahan who is playing on the Flames 3rd line.

He has predictably come back down to earth.

4th line.

Only over-invested Bennett fans didn't see the normalizing in production coming. And it's weird that they fail to acknowledge it now that it's literally happening.

Reminds me of oiler fan delusions.

Yes. To be clear, that is exactly what I am saying.

I get what you are saying, but Bennett doesn't play on the top line.

Edit: Just realized you said "a top line", not "the top line". Weird choice of words.

It’s a Calgary fan forum. Most people that hate Bennett are die hard Flames fans who refuse to admit that he is a good player not a bum. He is good enough to play on the top 6 on one of the better teams in the league. It’s ridiculous that they are comparing him to the untradable Monahan. There is nothing similar about them. Btw, Monahan got most of his points on the PP, not on the 4th line. At least speak truth

Monny would not be claimed if put on waivers, his cap hit is too high for what he brings.

Ericsson is not the baseline for negative territory.

Mony is not the source of our issues though, and arguably not providing the least value for his contract. 14 points and 0.5 PPG is far from useless on a 4th(!) line role.

7 points for Coleman and 9 points for Backlund in 29 is a far more glaring. They are still quite good at not "hurting" you, but at 5 mil apiece those two need to bring more around the opposing team's net. Lucic is handily outperforming them on that side of the puck.

Good thing is I think they can only get better from here, and we're still managing wins and points in the meantime.

Salary aside I love what Monahan brings to the 4th line. He has so many 1st line moments, where he'll shift the puck in a clever way to his linemates who miss that boat completely. He isn't a scrub, but he isn't a reliable puck moving forward either. Strange place for him these days. I think he's on his last Flames contract, but I could see him bumping around the league for a few more years.

Depending on how next season goes I wouldn't mind re-signing Monahan for 2-3 years at 3-4 per if he recognizes his stock has fallen.

I think he has a lot of emotional investment in this team and Sutter loves his game and commitment to his role. And I trust in what Sutter likes.

I like that Mony isn’t complaining and is accepting to his role this year . I wouldn’t be surprised if he asks for a trade in summer, if he feels that Sutter sees him as a 4th line player going forward . Granted having another team wanting him and his cap hit might be another story .

"I demand a trade!"
"We've been trying to trade you for 2 years, there's no offers"
"Oh..."

Ill give him this, by the eye test he is one of our best faceoff men, and I think that is why he is still on PP1.

At the end of the day I believe he caught fire by being setup by Johnny and expectations were elevated because of that. I dont think his game has improved much since season one to be honest (other then faceoffs).

He may be bought out this summer.
If you look at Sean's game objectively

He's still one of the best instinctive players on the team.
He's still the best finding soft spots in coverage and getting open.
He's still a phenomenal passer.
He's still got a great shot.
He's still one of the best faceoff men on the team.
He's still a leader on this team and does everything his coach demands of him,

Unfortunately he sucks really hard defensively and as a result he's saddled with a couple of defense first guys who play north south and don't use the soft spots on the ice where his game shines. What is ultimately apparent is he has been given another assignment, for some reason, and is continuing to accept that assignment without complaint. That's right. He hasn't publicly whined about his role, hasn't pouted, hasn't stormed into the GMs office and demanded a trade, or used his agent to publicly apply pressure on the coach or team for better ice time. Monahan is still a good player, a team player, and a consummate professional. We could never say any of those things about the player who shall not be named (the Florida Point Suck). If Monahan is bought out this summer, it's another reason to replace Treliving.

It would be hilarious if he demanded a trade.

"But we want to keep our draft picks and prospects, Sean. Be reasonable..."

I look at Sean's game objectively and I think you are full of ####. Not one of those things you listed apply to Monahan's game now, that was Monahan 3 years ago.
