Sorry, my example is returning to Canada from the US. I probably could have phrased that better. My aunt went to visit friends in Seattle for Thanksgiving. She said if she'd known how painful it was going to be, she wouldn't have bothered.

Thanks for cheating the system and putting others in peril, you moronic idiot. I was at that game too, and make decisions to go based on full vaccination status.

Goverment Officials in South Africa are advising to stop contact tracing and quarantining:
“On an individual level, the consequences of prolonged quarantining include loss of income, loss of employment, and loss of schooling time. We propose that quarantining be discontinued with immediate effect for contacts of cases of Covid-19. This applies equally to vaccinated and non-vaccinated contacts. No testing for Covid-19 is required irrespective of the exposure risk, unless the contact becomes symptomatic. We further propose that contact tracing be stopped.”

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll have to cancel my plans as well; I live in the Seattle area and we were going to do a family vacation up to Banff in the second week of January (and drive over to Calgary for the game against the Sens on the 14th). We are all vaxxed and boosted (my kids just vaxxed), but the prospect of getting stuck in Canada or the game changing/not happening is giving me cause to look for a new vacation.

You need a negative test both directions. Don't just show up at the border.

The requirements are readily available.

Until they change the testing requirements, Omicron pretty much takes international travel off the table. IMO time to synchronize testing requirements for domestic and international travel for many countries.

If the risk is hospitals being overrun, then really no one should be traveling outside their community lest you overwhelm someone else's hospital.

Is that for both driving and flying across the border? Or just flying?

From the second link:

Q: Does this Order apply to land border crossings?
A: No, the requirements of this Order only apply to air travel into the US

Apparently Covid only travels by airplane. It's very much a first world virus.

I know there has been some good discussion in the last few posts, but we are once again getting further away from the topic of this thread, NHL players (especially Flames) and the implications of games. There are several great threads in the Covid subform with people being helpful to provide answers. Let's keep this one on topic so we can have one place to discuss what is going on with the games.

This is idiotic at this point - Sutter and whoever else on the team is still currently infected should be interviewed by our media and showing people that as fully vaccinated, they are either completely unaffected or have only a mild cough etc.

Everything out there I have read continues to say that the vast majority of hospitalizations in Quebec are among the unvaccinated and this is the case in South Africa as well. The hysteria here is at a point I can't even understand. Like Quebec is actually shuttering bars, schools business again because of asymptomatic and extremely mild cases amongst the vast majority of the population?

Let's proceed with caution but we certainly don't need to shut the world down again (even partially) with vax passports in place and boosters going to the most vulnerable populations, kids finally getting the shot etc. Even in South Africa they are declaring they are past the peak and barely have 500 covid hospitalizations in the entire country right now.

The fact that a couple dozen professional athletes in their 20s and early 30s are mostly showing no symptoms, or very mild symptoms, is not a reason to assume that everything is safe for society at large.

Proceeding with caution, at this point, should mean continuing to remain careful and vigilant, until there is sufficient worldwide evidence to suggest that measures can safely be eased.

Careful, you're cherry picking. I never said healthy athletes were a reason to assume things are safe. It is called responsible journalism to convey messaging that would be helpful and accurate. Your damn right conveying messaging that not a single athlete has had any complications or prolonged symptoms (including elderly coaches) would be a very positive thing right now. Respectable outlets blindly publishing articles and videos of people running for the fences is every bit as irresponsible right now.

There's plenty of evidence out there beyond Quebec going off the deep and contributing to this being far more of a concern that it MAY need to be in Canada.

Infact, highly regarded medical professionals are already confirming there is no need to assume severe illness is about to skyrocket with Omicron, especially for highly vaccinated countries like Canada when South Africa, a country with poor uptake in general, saw no discernable spike in critical cases through this variant.

And you’re cherry picking by only mentioning Quebec. The vast majority of the population is under no greater restrictions than previously and places like Ontario and BC are only limiting large gatherings, which doesn’t affect a whole lot except sports. Alberta has no additional restrictions.

The fact that it's spread through 70+ players under pretty intense scrutiny/protocols is concerning. They might have slightly higher exposure risks than the average Joe, but they also have an entire team & league doing everything they can to keep them from infection.

Sorry but it's definitely not cherry picking when I am only speaking to and concerned with the fact that Quebec has imposed severe restrictions on schools, business and sport compared to most of the country, which you yourself seem to agree with based on your post.

I don't really know what your point to make is other than to possibly deny that Quebec has infact gone nuts despite the fact that they have, without a whole lot of evidence to suggest the medical system is on the verge of collapse.

Nurse and Lagesson are the two players added to the list for Oilers.

That takes the number of players to 7, though a couple of them have been on the list for a few days already, so might not be out for much longer.

We live in Alberta.

My mistake, this could quite easily be the fist mention of something that doesn't entirely concern itself with the thread topic on CP. As an Albertan I should know better than to concern myself with the outside world I guess.

I never cherry picked anything - quite the opposite, I am suggesting we need to avoid cherry picking.

All I said was that we should maintain the current, safe standards until we have sufficient evidence to be confident that the Omicron strain is in fact less dangerous.

And no, we don't yet have sufficient evidence.

It's not really about being on topic. It's about using Quebec as an example of why Sutter et al need to come out about their symptoms and why the media has to report on it and how it's idiotic they aren't.

The two have no correlation whatsoever.
