We need to retire the phrase “pipe dream” - you only start to dream again once you’ve quit.

Keenan87 mentioned Keller in the GDT as a potential target and though his contract is a bit of a gamble would it be a good target to upgrade the top 6? Monahan + Valimaki for Keller?? Add a mid pick if they absolutely need it? Maybe more if they retain? He’s definitely paid like a top line guy and hasn’t performed to that contract but he’s been on a mess of a team and is still young. Sutter has done wonders for guys like Gaudreau and Mangiapane and Keller seems to have similar tendencies in his game and skillset.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Keller - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Dube - Coleman

Very solid top 9 though we do lose some size in Monahan and up the middle.

Keller is the type of player that would greatly benefit from a change of scenery. He has way too much talent to stagnate in the desert.

Love watching Clayton Keller. I'd also have big-time interest in Nick Schmaltz.

He’s an American too so fits in with that group as well! If that did go down I’d actually put Kylington in Monahan’s slot on the PP1 and put Keller on PP2. I think Kylington has a great shot and would work wonders in that position on the PP.

Since we’re talking about the Coyotes, and I already killed my credibility with the Necas thing, another player I’ve always liked is Lawson Crouse. He skates well for a big man (6’4”), he’s tough and he’s physical-perfect Sutter player. This year, he’s getting more ice time with the lack of talent on that team, and he’s put up 9 pts in 17 games-good for second on the team, ahead of Keller and Kessel. Former first rounder.

I like him OK, but he’s a LHS LW who’s 5’10” and scores around .6 PPG for $7M+. he doesn’t really fill any holes.

Lawson would be great add playing last year of his contact. wonder what the cost would be to get him what he is looking for new contract. Pretty sure Tre has flip every rock in Arizona

Still like the idea of Kravstov or Vilardi
Ironically Larry Brooks has suggested a one for one swap of those two

Would Kravstov for Vali+ make sense?

Clean simple swap. Nothing overly technical about it.

I think Kravtsov has the potential to be a pretty special player.

Schmaltz would be an ideal add to the lineup. 25 year old versatile RHS C/W who can slot into the 2C spot. Also has 5 more years on his deal.

Wonder if there’s a framework that includes Monahan + pick/prospect that might entice Arizona? Perhaps they could retain salary on Monahan and flip him for more futures? Dunno, just spitballing. If there’s a way to get Schmaltz to effectively replace Monahan, I would be in favour of it.

I like Schmaltz being added and I think he fits the profile Treliving and Sutter would want. .

Oh my how far Monahan has fallen in the eyes of some Flames fans where we see proposals that have the Flames adding to SM to get Nick Schmaltz.

I doubt it’s just fans. NHL GMs aren’t dumb. Given his play over the last three seasons, Monahan is firmly in the reclamation project stage of his career. No GM is going to trade for Monahan thinking he’s going to get the 82 pt player of 2018-19, anymore then he would trade for Jeff Skinner expecting to get the 40 goal scorer of 2018-19.

It’s funny, but I pitched a Monahan for Schmaltz+ deal on this forum two off-seasons ago, and people shat all over it.

I'm not saying Monahan's value hasn't dropped, but what has Schmaltz done that makes him more valuable than Monahan at this point?

Even in a down year, playing with injuries, Monahan still produced as much as Schmaltz last season. And their career numbers aren't even comparable.

I know I mentioned Dube yesterday not realizing how high the salary coming back is. However, what about Monahan + Valimaki for Keller

Rangers said they are looking for a middle 6 forward. All this Monahan / Kravtsov talk with other deals, feels like this could be a thing?

I hope so, Kravtsov would be a great addition for now and the future.
