Pretty sure there’s something in between “odds are they fight for a playoff spot” guy and “planning the parade route” guy.
Whatever that is, I think I’ll stake my claim there.
They have proved to me they are a different and better team than last year. It would be hard not to be. Markstrom seems more dialed in, the team is more engaged. That is just facts. A couple poor periods the last couple of games haven’t changed that for me.
No one was planning a parade route after the streak but I do see people writing off the season after a couple losses early in the season and that’s just par for the course for some and that’s cool in my book. Fan however you want to fan.

No they haven't we'll know that at the end of the season.

I said “they have proved to me”. You’re not me.
If you can’t see the improved play from last year, that is shocking to me but all good.

I think there's a surprisingly fine line between mediocre low-skill teams and gritty playoff performing teams.
It kind of seems like the Flames are flickering somewhere on that line.
Here's to hoping that they can turn on that switch when it matters.

I think we need to be realistic, we're not a cup contender, we're a wild card team and will be for the foreseeable future. Cheer for the team to fight for a playoff spot. Then hope that we can flip a switch in the playoffs somehow.

Two gross third periods in a row, in tie games against bad teams. No bueno.

I don't get it, it's like you guys expect to win every game. I thought MTL played the Flames well, and beat them in their own game. The penalties didn't help, but give them kudos for battling back from being down 1-0 and 2-1.
It's a game where the first line seemed a little off, but they earned themselves a bit of a leash. I thought the Monahan line was quite good tonight, but there were more miscues because of the line juggling on both the Backlund and Richardson lines. We didn't deserve to win this one, but we were in it until the end. Also, despite a bad 3rd period I thought the Flames were at least even with MTL.
Looking for a bounce back against Toronto.

You don’t understand - TB won 82 games last year. Buffalo won none. Or something.

Sorry but they have never been a gritty playoff team so they are nowhere on that line
They are on a line that is fighting for a playoff spot

People who spent the summer saying the Flames were bottom feeders are now freaking out they lost a couple close games after a 10 game point streak

I will say, with Sutter at the helm, I think the chances of the flick being switched are much higher than in previous years.
I actually think most teams in the west should fear facing the Flames in the playoffs, especially if it's in round 2 (where the Flames have a much better record than in round 1).

I disagree. When such a large portion of the lineup consists of guys like Lucic, Zadorov, Gubrandson, Tanev, Pitlick, Lewis, and Ritchie, and when Sutter is coach, the team is more gritty than in the past couple of years. For better or for worse.

Pretty sure Flames fans would not be all that concerned about things if we had 2 straight Cups.

Flames should be fighting for a divisional spot all season

I hope the lines get shaken up to start tomorrow night. They’ll need something extra to give them some jump on the 2nd night of a back to back after such a poor showing tonight. I’d also expect to see Valimaki and possible Stone draw in.
On the positive side, Kylington is exactly what this team needed. He may make the odd mistake, but his playmaking and desire every shift to make an offensive difference has been a game changer for this team.

I mean, it was a relatively even game with a 5-2 pp deficit and the game winning goal was on an invented penalty. I think it's pretty clear the refs had a hand in the outcome.
The team can play poorly and still get boned by the refs.

I know the Eichel train left the station and it's not turning back, but the people that say if we were successful in getting Eichel we would lose roster players and not have him for a few months, or how does it help us now? It doesn't, you're correct but it's the old concept of taking one step back to take two steps forward. That's why the pro Eichel crowd still talks about it.

I'm asking sincerely.
I have an opinion as to why (Lindholm-Monahan down the middle lack the usual ability with the puck that the vast majority of star centres possess, and this team is too reliant on its star wingers and it's not a way to build a tea.) but I want to hear your take.

Not mentally prepared to play their best game.
It happens, but shouldn’t happen in consecutive games.
The top paid and best players have a lot of accountability , IMO.
They are, predominately , the major reason for wins and losses.
People whining about the 4th line and bottom pair D carries no weight with me.

There is no point until he is actually playing though...and nobody knows
He might come back and get hurt again after 3 games
He might come back as a shadow of his former self
He might come back and score 100 points
there is a thread for it now, seems irrelevant in a PGT where he wouldn't have been playing anyway.
Really the Flames probably wouldn't have had Mangiapane+ tonight if they had Eichel in hospital in Flames Jammies
