This team is not keeping Gaudreau and Tkachuk in two years time. Taking a swing at an elite C is worth gutting out the next few months.

Tkachuk or anybody else on the roster could get hurt tomorrow night and be out for three months...
You find a way to make it work if that's the outcome

I already hate Jack Eichel (or at least hearing his name). Just let Vegas have him

My initial reaction is similar to how I reacted to the Hamilton, Ferland, Fox for Hanifin and Lindholm. I thought we got good players, but lost the trade.
I underestimated the players we got. Now Carolina only has prospects form the Fox trade we get Lindholm and Hanifin for 3 more years.
The same applies to the Eichel scenario. We get Eichel for 4.5 years. We have control of Tkachuk for 1.5 more years. As for the prospects/former first rounder it seems like it's a lot of value. I also wonder if Dube/Kylington still counts as prospects(one of the non 1st round prospects).
Honestly I don't put much value into the first this year, nor do I think that Valimaki/Pelletier/Zary are going to become elite players in the league. Meanwhile, Eichel is definitely an elite game changer the Flames have been lacking.
Can the Flames hold on for 3-4 months without Eichel and Tkachuk and stay in the playoff picture, that remains to be seen... That said, I wanted change all of the off-season, so I am all in on this move.

I don’t even know what to believe anymore with these leaked proposed packages.
Only the GM’s know what’s on the table at this point and I think what ever is being leaked is probably not 100% accurate

So you're saying he used former first round picks and prospects as being two different things. OK I'm with you. I hope you're right.

I believe in the Jays.

If Tkachuk is really on the table then we need more then just Eichel coming back... moving a top line winger will murder our forward depth for half the season until Eichel is game ready. This is the best start to a season the team has had in years... we'd be squandering that.
We'd need a 2nd line quality winger coming with Eichel to compensate for the injury recovery lag.

Wolf is having a great start to the AHL season. I wonder if he was 1 of the 2 prospects? If we make this trade keeping 2 of Pelletier zary and coronato would be nice.
As much as keeping Tkachuk and including Monahan would be great and this team probably could keep playing well without Monahan and buy time until Eichel is ready to go for cap reasons I’m good with paying a bit less and including Tkachuk.
Monahan would end up on first line and Lindholm to the wing until Eichel recovers? Maybe this team still hangs on for 3 months. The first might not be that valuable
I’m fully on board to keep Kylington and trade Valimaki after the start to Kylington season. His speed is elite and his confidence is growing. His next contract is growing and mangiapane is getting paid too. Hopefully Johnny cuts us some slack to keep this team together after the Eichel deal but imo this could be franchise changing trade for the good. The depth we lose in this deal is offset by the gain this franchise has got by kylington coming in and cementing himself as a regular and mangiapane and dube continuing to get better and better. Wolf being a late pick with growing value allows Brad to make this move. GET IT DONE!!

People Need to stop saying things like this.
It will not “murder” anything.
Mangiapane is getting Olympic consideration. Backlund is still good. Coleman, even if he’s not going to be good years 3-6 of his deal, is good now. Dube is showing signs of taking a step. Monahan is getting healthier.
And we’d still have all of our picks the next 3 drafts except this upcoming 1st to add someone else.

Weekes said the Flames offer was:
· Tkachuk
· an upcoming first round pick
· a former first round pick
· two prospects
It seems natural that he would distinguish a former first round pick from other prospects who were not selected in the first round.

I feel the leak is close but something is missing in terms of contract spots or something, there has to be more coming back from BUF.

If it was Tkachuk, Valimaki, Pelletier, 1st and 2nd I would do it. I have been less impressed with Chucky this season and last. IF Eichel comes back to playing then it is a clear win.
