What the hell does Adams think he’s going to get here? This package alone would be the biggest for a single player that I can recall. How much higher does the asking price go? That’s the part that I think a lot of people are questioning.

If its truly "one yard" away
Maybe the gap is conditions on the pick
That could be the "demands not met" they're talking about. They want the first condition free, or just limited protection, maybe.

Connor Mackey could also help fill the void.

It's possible that that contract uncertainty is why the flames are offering Chucky. If they have little confidence he does more than sign his QO next year and then walk to UFA (St. Louis) then getting him off the books does a lot for making Eichel fit. It also is one of the few existing contracts that might have interest for Buffalo, as it gives them a marketable player for this year, with an option to QO for next year if they are interested, or to sell off for more pieces at the deadline if they wish. It also would relieve the sticking point of retaining salary as Chucky plus a roster player will equal the large majority of Eichel's salary, meaning Calgary can probably send someone down just to get Eichel on roster, and then put Eichel on LTIR.

Pull the trigger on this deal, and then lock-up Johnny and Mang? I like it.
|
Valimaki is a guy we can afford to let go, which is a benefit. We can replace him with Mackey, and we're all good at that position. Can't say the same about forwards. I look at Pepsi's line up and I can see where guys fit in if they keep our last three picks.
Gaudreau-Eichel-???(Coronato)
Mangiapane-Lindholm-???(Zary)
(Pelletier)???-Backlund-Coleman
I could get behind that.

5/6/7 of Gudbranson, Stone and Zadorov is a perfectly cromulent group of D.

Doesn't matter who the ??? are, that's a ridiculous top 9.

I assume one is Dube since he doesn’t match any of the trade criteria - not a first, not a prospect.
What if the lineup is:
Gaudreau-Eichel-Monahan
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Dube
Pitlick-Backlund-Coleman
Lucic-and two more guys.
You could also put Lindy at RW on the top line if you want to load up, and if you want Dube as a centre. You can continue Monahan on the 4th line too.
One thing to keep n mind I guess is that Tkachuk is playing out of position and isn’t as effective on that side IMO.

I think Brodie is highly over rated...he makes defensive blunders all the time and has one goal since joining the high scoring Leafs
Plenty of Brodie gaffs have cost the Flames over the years

has said VGK offer is Tuch, Krebs and Brisson or Coghlan plus a 1st rd pick. I think VGK drops out if offer isn’t enough."

Tkachuk is not keeping this team out of a lottery spot…. Protecting the pick is a waste of time.

If this rumor is true, what is Buffalo waiting for?
The tipping point for me will be the prospects involved….B or C prospects, go for it. One or two of our A prospects and I’d be pretty uneasy making that deal.
Not surprised Chucky’s name is involved, never thought he’d stay in Calgary long-term anyways.

...is it odd that you and I seem to be in agreement over a package regarding Eichel? It seems weird. I like it.

The way I look at it is this:
1. We always knew that a significant salary piece would be going the other way. The popular choice was Monahan because of how ineffective he was last year, and ongoing concerns about his recovery from injury. However, he also has a NTC, and many believe his value league-wide has plummeted. I think most felt that any of Lindholm, Hanifin or Andersson was a non-starter, and that a deal would most likely not include Gaudreau, because of his contract status, and Backlund because of his age. Tkachuk makes sense given his contract situation and the ease with which he can be moved.
2. I have always thought that a deal would need to include one of either Mangiapane or Dube, but if the Flames can keep both of them, that is a huge win.
3. A "former first" would seem to be a roster player, but also one that was fairly recently drafted. Especially with how well Kylington has played, and with the additions of Zadorov and Gudbranson on the blue line, Valimaki definitely looks like the expendable piece, also with some value.
4. If the report of "a former 1st and two prospects" is accurate, then it means only one of Valimaki, Zary, Coronato or Pelletier its going the other way. I am pretty comfortable with this.
In the end, this strikes me as a very high price, but definitely one the Flames can afford.

If you're suggesting that Monahan is going to simply slide back up the lineup and provide what Tkachuk does you are sorely mistaken.

That offer sucks. You can't trade any of those players again for a 1st ++.
