Because Monahan has one year left on his deal beyond this one. He is on year six of 7 @ 6.3 He lived up to his contract for the majority of the deal.

Marner has 3 years left after this season @ 11M

The guy was saying how great the Leafs were with the cap and the Flames overpay players

Monahan might be overpaid the last couple seasons...after being a bargain for he first half. Marner has never lived up to his contract.

This idea that the Leafs are good with the cap and the Flames are terrible is wrong.

Look at Lindholm and Hanafin

Lucic is the Flames only really bad contract IMO and he probably retires in the offseason or at worst one more year.

Leafs couldn't ice a team 2 weeks ago and had to get a rent a goalie

He said the Leafs didn't have SEVERAL bad contracts like the Flames

Lucic...Monahan is bad but hasn't been a bad contract. He will overperform it more seasons than under.

Not a bad contract for Rielly. Then again the Leafs have little choice because their defense has no depth. Say what you want about Matthews, Marner and Nylander but the Leafs really knee-capped themselves signing Tavares. Should have spent that money shoring up their defense and then they also could have kept guys like Hyman and Kapanen.

To follow up on what I wrote, I was referring to the Flames year after year making bad signings that handcuff them. Lucic was the current roster obvious one, but prior years it was Neal, Raymond, Brouwer. I'm not talking about the good deals on the team, but the vast overpayments which handcuff the team such as the aforementioned ones above. Even Gio, captain and all really hurt the team with that $6.xx contract. These all were contracts that were long term and for a hefty amount more than they were worth.

It drives me crazy that posters complain about Treliving not signing 8 year deals but then complaining about players not earning the salary in one or two years out of a multi-year contract (and ignoring the years when they vastly outplayed the annual salary).

Lol Giordano won a Norris on that contract and performed at a top pairing level every other year except maybe last year. Tough crowd

Flames are the worst at everything posts don't often age well

Leafs have what 5 contracts higher than any Flame player and their core has yet to win a round. Or even a play in round.
