I dont think any of our prospects are that special. Valimaki included. If we can make a package entirely out of futures+ valimaki for eichel and ltir him for the season, that would be the best case scenario.
Valimaki
Pelletier
Coronato
1st 2023
Holding back the 1st 2022 and zary but I would be willing to include them as well. Still in 4 1sts value range.

Most centres people consider elite are adequate at defence at best. A few, like Bergeron or Datsyuk, exceed that level. But Gretzky and Lemieux weren’t “great” defensively. Mackinnon and Matthews are OK but I wouldn’t think of the as some defensive wizards.
I think what you want in an elite C is someone who can handle playing against a top line, either because their offence is so overwhelming it covers up for mediocre defence or because they can at least play in their own zone a bit.

The Islanders are currently more than $3.729 million over the salary cap, but can place Johnny Boychuk and his $6 million cap hit on LTIR once the season begins, allowing the team to exceed the cap by that amount.
However, the Isles have not yet registered the contracts of Zdeno Chara, Zach Parise, Keiffer Bellows and Cory Schneider and Michael Dal Colle, and at least Chara and Parise will be with the big club this season.
Islanders forward Leo Komarov and defenceman Thomas Hickey have been the subject of trade speculation going back to last season and it’s possible one of them is moved by Monday.

Monahan has a 10 team no trade list. I'm assuming he gave that list when he signed his contract? The odds of Buffalo being on there are probably decent.

Maybe. Buffalo is close to home for him though so who knows.

Typically, I think players get to submit their list every year.

No but they also scored 200 points and won scoring races by their assists alone.

Have you ever ever watched him play? At 17 he had 71 points in 40 games at BU, the guy can take the puck and not give it up until the goalie is pulling it from the net! even on a decent team he's a 100 point center, when healthy he's a top 5 center with ease.

Absolutely agree. People value our prospects and/or future picks too much. The age of our core is in WIN NOW mode, Eichel fits that core perfectly AND our future. Flames have ALWAYS been missing a #1C, and Eichel gives us EXACTLY that, and not just a #1C but a #1 ELITE C. Everyone has always been like “if only we had #1C” for DECADES, well now we have a chance to get one and everyone is scared to give up prospects and future picks/draft capital lol. Eichel will get his surgery, Eichel will heal, and Eichel will come back to an even better team and absolutely dominate.
Treliving NEEDS to make this trade happen ASAP. Opportunities like this DON’T come along often. Think of it this way, say the worst happens and it doesn’t work out, Flames at least took a CHANCE, something they have never done with an elite player like this, in order to get us out of complete mediocracy, and if it doesn’t work out, we’re back in the same mediocracy we’ve always been in, and would have been in had we not taken the chance on Eichel in the first place. Essentially, getting Eichel is a chance at actually getting a cup with this core, without him we won’t, not with the team we have now. So in my opinion, it’s a chance we need to take, and if we don’t OR if it doesn’t work out, it’s the same mediocracy as always.

Great, but what's the max price you'd pay given Eichel's current risk situation? Surely that needs to be taken into account.
Personally, I'm in favour of including any of the combination of their existing prospects + Monahan + a conditional 1st. But multiple 1sts? No chance as this team needs to build through the draft.

Treliving needs to risk the #### out of this. All chips in, just get it done. The possible rewards are huge. You don't win #### without an elite 1C. They come available like every 5-10 years. Downside is nothing. What's the worst that happens? He doesn't work out and we remain mediocre? Uhhh.. so what?
Swing for the fences Brad. Save your job and save us the pain of a lengthy rebuild. Just get it done. Pay the price. Take the risk. It's so ####ing obvious it's painful. Honestly, I can't believe how many people don't get this. It's a huge opportunity. Risky? Yes. Otherwise he wouldn't be available at all. The downside is we are forced into a rebuild that seems inevitable anyway. This is professional sports. The object is to win. Opportunity is knocking. Answer the damn door. You CAN'T win a cup without a superstar.
This is a watershed moment for Brad. His entire legacy hinges on this imo. #### or get off the pot.

I would literally offer Monahan, Zary, Pelletier, Valimaki and our 2023 1st. Whatever. Look at our draft record. You need the best package. Buffalo needs to be wowed. Swing for the fences. Quality over quanity every single time.
