How was Valimaki-Tanev as a pairing? I'm going to guess Kylington was a better fit there.
A little better but not nearly as good as 58-8 has been.

Like tonight, when he was out-chanced 7-1 at 5-on-5?

I didn't think Kylington played well tonight and I didn't like his last game either. He's still weak on the puck and makes terrible reads. Something is off on his lanes, gap control and instincts. Love the tools though. He should make the team though. Individually the Flames D is ok but the pairings suck outside of whomever plays with Tanev.

I think Kylington is easily one of their best players in the offensive zone but he's inconsistent on D. Gudbranson... I just dunno, man. I'd be willing to bet a lot he's the main reason why that pairing got shelled tonight.

No coincidence Kylington was less solid without Tanev.

Clearly #8 is a grounding presence to have. Thing is his tools compliment Tanev's better than the other guys tried there.

Keep it a thing.

I'll go with the 3 time cup champ coach on this one...Gudbranson has been a solid bottom pair guy the last few games who provides some much needed muscle. He was also great on the PK which was pretty massive this game.

Is this a good time to tell you that Gudbranson was on the ice for the most Jets PP chances against of any Flame in this game

How many goals? He had a lot of time on the PK so more chances don't really mean much. You are assuming those were all his fault or something?

again I am going to side with Darryl...he has a bit better track record

Hanifin - Andersson

Valimaki - Stone/Zadorov
Gudbranson (Mackey first call up)

We still have so many D in camp... I'm still hopeful Valimaki is traded in a package to Eichel but he sure hasn't helped himself or us.

Gudbranson is in next Saturday...I will bet on it

Mackey/Stone certainly won't be playing above him

Careful, that could get you in trouble around here...he did make a few bad plays though, nothing too egregious but not his best showing.

Hanifin and Rasmus were GREAT this game this game though so that should make 2 good pairs.

I think I would look decent with Tanev

Wouldn't be shocked if the Flames were watching the waiver wire over the next few days too

Umm isn’t that because he’s killing every penalty?

Not a big Gudbranson booster over here but that seems like a stat you’re using to fit your narrative.

Yup, Gudbranson is a lock to be in the line-up against the Oil. Especially given Sutter's comments.

No. With Gudbranson on the ice the Flames averaged more chances against/60 than with any other defenseman out there. Hanifin played just as much as Gudbranson but the Flames surrendered less than half as many expected goals with him on compared to the unit with Gudbranson and Tanev.

Well, this is clearly a case when my eyes are not translating the same things on the ice as the data suggests, because I thought the penalty kill was simply excellent tonight. Shows what I know.

I had good seats right behind the Jets bench in my nice brown suit and I thought Gudbranson looked pretty good

Gudbranson is an anchor you can build a defence around.
