The McBennett love in here is the equivalent of the Schremp 600 goals 1300 points.
He's played 25 games! lol Sure if he can sustain this over like a 50 game stretch then maybe it's a thing. But as we have seen over the past 5 years, he will just revert back to a derp with a hockey IQ of a prune.
Ugh it's only 15 games and not 25.

I never said he wasn't a good player FYI, just that there are quite a few posters who have rose colored glasses for him

Fair enough. Bennett is also homegrown. Drafted and developed here, so as fans we've gotten to know him more than other players. Didn't go the way anyone wanted it to in the end, but that's still a big reason for the rose coloured glasses.
It's hockey. Can't expect many fans to be objective. Not much fun in being objective either.

I have to agree - Sam Bennett is not that great of a hockey player. He can turn it on for stretches, but we’ve never seen him sustain it. Honestly, I almost never saw a play from Sam where I was like ‘wow, he’s really good at x’… Those kind of things happened a lot with a guy like Mangiapane for example.

The hit on Coleman in the playoffs was worse than anything Tom Wilson did last season, he is also a good player yet not so much love.

Gudbranson is a “fun player to watch”???? Yikes.

just a dumb penalty as usual...I mean it doesn't matter in the preseason but he takes them constantly...he took many of them in the playoffs too despite what the Iraq information ministers say.

The return for Bennett was actually good for what he had done as a Flame though.
Be mad that he was misused here, and that it resulted in him asking for a trade.
It’s just unfortunate that the relationship with the organization seemed to have been so sour by the time Sutter was here that he was probably too late and we needed to move on.
Also if they don’t make the trade it’s likely just Bennett in Seattle instead of Gio.

Highest draft pick in franchise history.
Has little regular season success with the club but shows potential in the playoffs.
Gets traded shortly after a HHOF worthy coach shows up who seems to gel with him.
Goes on to immediate success with new club.
Why are we still talking about him?! Isn’t it obvious?

Good for him. Took too many inopportune penalties but other than that I knew he had it in him to be a lot better than he was here and wish him well. Time to move on folks. Dwelling on an ex is not healthy.

Aren't Jacques Richard and Tom Lysiak the highest draft picks in the franchise's history?
Bennett is the highest in Calgary's team history.
Or is the franchise the Calgary Flames? I don't know.

For some this is the defining moment of their generation, like the moon landing and the fall of the berlin wall.
There's gonna be people in 20 years telling their grandkids about that time our coaches didn't gift a superstar like Sam 1st line minutes and how it costs us a shot at a real dynasty.

People like Bennett because he plays big and wild. And, you know, he's a good player. If he wasn't, his suspension wouldn't have cost his team. Sure, you'd like him on the ice more than off it, but that's the trade off.
|
I don't think his suspension cost Fla in the POs. His in-game penalty did, though.
I never minded Bennett but he wasn't good here, and if he is there, I don't really care much. Hell, I didn't even follow Iggy that closely after he left.

Vasi still had the puck, and Bennett was actually trying to play it. I don't think that should even be a penalty.

Notice how Sutter is using Kylington, playing him lots and telling him to watch out fot the big mistakes.... He wants him to gain confidence and use his skills. Same thing they are doing in Florida with Sam Bennett. Just like Hartley said, you have to play the young skilled player lots even if they make mistakes. Will be intersting to see if Bennett does have a successful season in Florida.

I don't know why it is so difficult to realize why people are still talking about Bennett. He was a favourite for many while here. He was also a very polarizing player that was at the heart of many arguments. It is natural to continue to follow him given his history here.
