They have been close, have seen multiple runs where he has made a large impact statistically, and may yet win over the remaining duration of his contract.
So probably worth it yes.
Is your logic that because a big player acquisition didn't work out for Vegas we should just play it safe and continue with this B-level core in hopes of..... seeing the second round of the playoffs once in the coming years?
If anything, the Flames can't afford to play it safe and continue as they have been. They are just driving apathy into the fanbase further with every season.

They’ve been to the 3rd round with Stone, so yes.

You also missed it. GioforPM was responding to a poster who asserted that unless the Flames win a Stanley Cup with Jack Eichel in the lineup, then they would regret trading for him if it happened.

If they traded for him, a McDavid-Eichel showdown (I don't know about fight..) in the playoffs is not only possible but probable.
Both Alberta ownerships would fiscally benefit massively from this and the PR around it.
Outside of the medical side of it going sideways, which seems more and more improbable with each medical opinion coming in, I don't see the downside.
Do
It.

Obviously my post wasn’t clear - I short cut the statement. My logic is the opposite.

Monahan may be to even out salary.
Tkachuk is the major piece of the deal.

Well, the stupid Oilers would still have to show that they could provide more competition than a limp noodle in the playoffs if they do qualify, so I am not holding my breath on the probability of any sort of showdown.

I would imagine that Adams is not impressed by that - pretty classless

Again, it depends on what Buffalo is focused on. The reporting indicates that they don’t want big salary/star players back. And Tkachuk comes with his own contract headache in short order.

Then I wave it. With the flames adding to their roster that’s more conducive to Sutter, I think it’s less likely we end up with a top 10 pick. It’s not something I’d be pumped about the flames doing but worth it in this case, IMO

Did I say showdown?
I meant a slaughter, guised as a showdown.

insisting on unprotected picks will cost Buffalo the deal given the volatility of Eichel's health

Did they pay a lot for Stone? Brannstrom is on the block again and Lindberg is out of the league. They only gave up a 2nd rounder as well and Stone agreed to the extension before.
