The next trade we hear about could be Eichel. However, somebody else may be traded first.

He's either traded or he isn't traded, thus 50%.
Simple math, really.

I don't think Adams has really thought this one through. It's clear that they are not ready to assume the risk of his surgery, but that they want other teams to do so at full freight. Fine, ask for the moon then. But he's also tossed out the obvious deadlines to make this ask possible. First and foremost, the deadline of having him available to his new team for game 1 of the season. That deadline passed about a month ago. The second deadline was the draft since this is when teams had their fullest arsenal of assets. Yes, the assets still exist, but there is no way Mactavish is worth a 3rd overall to Buffalo right now. Quite possible they didn't have Coronado as high either, for example. Then the third deadline was yesterday when teams hadn't blown their wads.
With each of those 3 deadlines, Eichel is going down in value. Teams have drafted their guys, brought in new guys, spent their money and have less desire for a guy who needs a neck surgery and will miss a month or 2 of the season. Adams just chose the, hold out for your price no matter what route and it is going to burn him.

Putting this out there, but I will be one of many who would immediately buy a shiny new Eichel blasty jersey to help soothe the owners in their big spend

Anyone know if they're running Blastys (Blasties?) as 3rds again this year?

It's more simple than that - if he's traded it's 100% traded. Otherwise, he's still 100% he's NOT traded. Simple. The player can't be 50-50 when he's under contract with the original team. It's not like flipping a coin.

They're not.
We're just wearing the retro whites and retro reds this year, no black C or blasty jerseys.
Good chance they bring back Blasty again in the coming seasons though.

How do you think the line has handled it in the past? Johnny? Mony?
You are trying to establish a problem that doesn't exist.
There are tons of great options for a RW for them:
Coleman
Tkachuk
Lindholm
Mangiapane
Dube
I would want to balance 2 lines, so something like:
Gaudreau - Eichel - Coleman
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane (if Monahan went the other way)

After watching the EIchel video posted earlier, I don't think Johnny would be a good match for him. They both need the puck on their stick as they're both play drivers.
Tkachuk Eichel Mangiapane
Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
I think reuniting that second line would actually work again, now that opponents have to actually make decisions on who to defend against. Instead of teams being able to focus their shutdown efforts on one guy (Johnny) on one line (Johnny's line), now the'd have to focus on shutting down Eichel on Eichel's line OR Johnny on Johnny's line (which then frees up the other one).
Then a third line of Lucic Someone Coleman able to put up points as well.
(Obviously, in my world, Backlund is the one moved out for picks and cap space)

I don't even mind the loss of Blasty for a year as long as he took the black C jerseys with him!

Not sure if Dube is moved in your scenario but I could see him getting a look up the middle if the Flames move on from a center

Right, I forgot about that.
Lucic Dube Coleman as a third line seems pretty good.

Unless we sell the farm I don't think the Flames can keep all of Tkachuk, Monahan, Gaudreau, and Mang if Eichel comes over.
Crazy because they could in theory, but this team is so perfectly mediocre that it's either a rebuild or a couple pieces from being great.

Gaudreau played on a line with Jack Eichel at the 2016 WCH. They seemed just fine together.

Question: How does LITR work in Buffalo's situation? They're $7,966,667 under the floor right now, with Eichel's $10m on LITR. Does that mean as soon as they trade him, they go to $2,033,333 above the floor, or is there only a % of Eichel's LITR hit subtracted from their cap?

Nope. Monahan has to go as part of the deal. Maybe thru a 3rd party.

I thought LTIR only kicks in when you're over the cap.
