I posted similar in the Coleman thread but I really would prefer this team to go all out and get Eichel versus sticking with this stale core.
If it doesn't work out then do the tear down rebuild when Sutters contract runs out.

I'd say at 70+ points Tkachuk's contract is justified. If Tkachuk put up 90 points while distracting other teams with his pestiness, that would put him on the level of Brad Marchand. Despite Marchand's critics, he's the reason the Bruins are always in the conversation as contenders.

If you add in Dube I think that’s a reasonable offer. I agree, Buffalo’s price is way too high obviously so that won’t get it done right now. But I figure this trade makes it so the flames and Buffalo share the risk of teller injuries to each player. There’s a real chance neither player ever returns to the quality of player they were. There’s a chance Monahan bounces back and eichel is a shadow of his former self in which case Buffalo looks really good in this deal. If eichel ends up returning to form but Monahan doesn’t, the flames end up looking good in the deal but gave up 3 young, cost-controlled players (Dube, Pelletier/Zary, and the player from the first round pick) that have a ton of potential. Both Monahan and eichel could return to their former selves and the flames will have given up a 60-70 point center for an 80-90 point center along with the majority of the young prospects/players that the team has to offer.
Again, I think that’s a reasonable offer/deal. I don’t think Buffalo will take it. At least not right now.

Finally got to view some of Eichel's highlight packages. Really accurate shot and drives the play on his line. Sign me up!

The Flames have to put forward a serious offer for Eichel. I'll be very upset if this turns into another...they asked for X prospect/player, but the organization didn't want to give him up.

The notion that in 2021 star NHL players under contract have no say in where they play is nonsense. Laine, Dubois, Jones. Even unproven guys like Fox can force the hand of the team that owns their rights.
The whole reason Eichel is being traded is because he won’t play for the team that currently owns his rights. He absolutely has a say in whether he plays in Calgary.

Marchand has a 6M cap hit not 9M

spin it how you want, but yes that is too much for a player that costs $10M and has significant risks

Is unreal what the guy can do. A laser accurate shot. Anyone trying to compare Monahan to Eichel, just watch one small snippet of his highlights.

What makes you think he won't play in Calgary?
I would assume that he has indicated that would be happy to play for the Flames. Otherwise, why would they pursuing him this hard at this point?

I would just say that look at where being risk adverse has got this team. I would rather they roll the dice and see where they land with Eichel. At least it is something different than trotting out the same old core again and again.

They could become the next Buffalo! What a wonderful change that would be!

I mean agree to disagree I guess. Keeping our middling players in order to continue this franchises decline into mediocrity is fine for some. Just sign a few more Colemans and Pitlicks for added depth and we should be good to go.

Yes, but at least they will have tried.
But really, if that's what it turns into then so be it. Can't fault them for trying to go for the home run even if it ends in a strikeout.

Do you see that happening adding a number one center under the coaching of Darryl Sutter? I sure don't. Even if it does, then you have a good enough idea that the team is broken and it's time to tear it down.

If we spend big assets on Eichel and he can’t return to his self it significantly sets this franchise back, over a decade I would guess. Best case is he would be on LTIR. Worst case he plugs along at 50-60 pts.

"After undergoing neck surgery that sidelined him for the 2011 season, Manning was released by the Colts and signed with the Broncos. Serving as the Broncos' starting quarterback from 2012 to 2015, he helped them clinch the AFC West each season and reach two Super Bowls. Manning's career ended with a victory in Super Bowl 50, making him the first starting quarterback to win the Super Bowl for more than one franchise."
By QB Rating he had his 2nd, 3rd, and 5th best seasons after the injury and surgery. Maybe not the best comparison.

I’m not convinced he won’t play in Canada (though that would buck the trend we’re seeing in this league). My post was challenging the assertion that he has no say in where he plays. He does, because he can refuse to play or demand a trade from his destination. It sucks, but that’s the reality of the league today.

I see that happening if you add a #1 centre and subtract four or five other pieces, as people are talking about doing. Especially if that #1 centre costs $10 million a year and plays after his surgery like a $7 million player.

So that's how to tell the team is broken: break it yourself! Brilliant.

Fox had a loophole where he plays out university and gets to pick where he wants . As for Laine and Dubois I can almost guarantee they didn’t pick Columbus and Winnipeg as their trade destinations.
