That's just simply a fact.

Seriously?
So I can't just trade a 6th round pick for a 1st round pick?
Thanks man ... had no idea that the picks at the top of the draft were worth more than picks at the bottom. If it wasn't for your non sarcastic level headed comparison of housing prices I'd be lost in the dark.
But in that period where he's up 2 picks and a prospect?
1st round =
2nd round +1
3rd round +3
4th round -2
So in your house thingy that's good right? More at the top and less at the bottom?
Patiently waiting your response.

That's a sticky one for you huh? Always pushing back on it.
Honestly it just seems every move the team makes, or almost makes, or could make has a certain number of people rehashing every single Trelving argument over and over again.
It does look a bit pissy from my standpoint. Rage is a big word. Would blind pissiness be better?

No he didn't.
He went back further. The poster I was responding to said Treliving does it every year. I went back three ... wasn't true.
So no ... I don't feel crushed or utterly destroyed.
And his post was good for the overall body of work that I don't have a single problem with.
Keep on swinging Lanny

Nah. I see people are now crushing and destroying discussions
I guess I should try reading other people’s posts as if as soon as they stop typing, they flip the keyboard, go to the hallway and beat the hell out of a garbage can, Brent style
I find it odd but maybe it is actually happening. What do I know?

Not really worth debating that.
Recent history doesn't have a bad UFA signing, and doesn't have a net picks out the door.
Why argue something that you can just look up?
|
Come on man, I know you don’t like me saying how bad the Flames are but fact is fact. Why look at trades, look at the number of picks they make
2020- 8 picks +1
2019 5 picks -2
2018 5 picks -2
2017 5 picks -2
Is that 3 out of the last 4 years in deficit?

You don't find there's a negative pissy contingent on the site these days that is looking to be upset with literally everything that has, or could happen?

I say all the time the Flames are flawed, that I don't like their core. That I want change.
None of those fit your narrative of what I say.
I even say there are plenty of reasons to fire Treliving if that's the way you want to go.
I don't however think every move made, rumoured or contemplated is a sign that the GM has to go. It gets old.
And yes ... last three calendar years he's added two picks and a prospect. He's up a 2nd, up 3 3rd and down 2 4ths.

Yeah, over half of the poll respondents think the GM should be fired and another quarter aren’t sure. That’s pretty indicative of the temperature
A lot of people probably struggle to be optimistic and I think it’s to the point that a big change has to happen to change sentiment.
I don’t even fault Tre for a lot of bets he has placed, but he’s not walking out of the casino with full pockets

So the poll gives people permission to over-react to every move made and not made?
Actual discussion and debate is great. The constant snide remarks, "clever" jokes and outrage is what some are tiring of.

Exactly.
Any one that knows me knows I don't want a site that only assumes every move is perfect from the team.
I'm an optimistic person that tends to see more upside in things in most aspects of life, but it's good to have a balance.
But it just seems that this vitriol has now crept into every single discussion on the site. Talking about the draft ... Flames will screw it up. Talking about free agency ... Flames always screw it up. "this would so be a Calgary Flame thing to do".
Can't we talk about the merits of a third line guy added to the team without an out and out brawl about how stupid the GM is, often by literally ignoring actual stats and history?
Tyler Pitlick and the value of a fourth round pick shouldn't cause such angst.
I'd assume most people coming here are fans of the team, shouldn't you let a little hope and happiness into this?

Fair enough
I actually think you are a very reasonable guy to put up with all this
To me once the guy is fundamentally flawed, he needs to be replaced. Treliving has not done anything significant to change that view. Pitlick is not relevant.
As far as the post, context is everything. The guy said the Flames had surplus in the last 3 yrs. I simply pointed out that is not true based on the last 4 drafts.
Yes Treliving recovered some picks after we #### the bed but that’s not the post.

Again, you are ignoring the next 2 drafts where the Flames have a surplus of picks from trades that have already happened.
United's post looks further back, where yes, the Flames had a deficit of picks.
Bongo's point is that, more recently (i.e. the last 3 years), Treliving has not been trading at a deficit, and has actually been trading at a surplus (including value, not just numbers).
You keep arguing that the last few drafts have seen a deficit in picks. Yes, that is true and no one is disputing it, but you are missing the point because you are ignoring the surplus of picks that have yet to be realized but none the less exist.
