Do we see a trademark Treliving Draft Day deal tomorrow?
Prediction - Our 1st and Tkachuk are dealt for Eichel on the draft "floor" 2 picks before ours.

If I was a gambling man, and I am, I would put good money on a big deal happening by Saturday.

What is peoples thoughts on trying to pick up kessel on the last year of his contract?
It's not the direction I hope the Flames go, but a rw known for scoring is a team need. Especially since a rebuild looks out of the question.

A right-wing who was only outscored by Gaudreau and Lindholm from the Flames? On a team not known for it's scoring prowess? Who's only a couple years removed from what should have been a Conn Smythe trophy (if not for Crosby's reputation award voting)? With no term and a reasonable 6.8M cap hit?
That seems great, but he has fat cheeks and likes hot dogs so no thanks.

With the huge cost of moving cap theses days, until we hit the trade deadline, Kessell would be hard to move for free.
Now at the deadline, teams would be lining up to trade for Kessell with 50% retained. Easy first round pick.

Where is all the Buchnevich trade talk coming from?

From Friedman
Quote:
BUCHNEVICH ON THE BLOCK
After a 20-goal, 48-point season in 54 games, all career-best per game averages, 26-year-old Pavel Buchnevich is available for trade. While a strong offensive contributor, Buchnevich is an arbitration-eligible RFA this summer and just a year away from unrestricted free agency. Meantime the Rangers have other costly contracts to consider a year from now, and could still be a player for Jack Eichel.
"Teams that I've heard that have liked him at times, St. Louis, Nashville, I'm sure there's more," Friedman said.
There was one rumour this week about the Canucks showing interest in Buchnevich, but it was for an eyebrow-raising return.
"I know there was a rumour out there about a (Bo) Horvat for Buchenvich deal," Friedman continued. "I don't understand how that makes any sense for the Canucks."

I don't think the Kessel idea is terrible.

Buchnevich has arb rights and 1 year from UFA.
The problem for the Rangers is that the arb award will take him to UFA.
Also his arb award will most likely come above the walkaway threshold, so if it is too high the Rangers can walk away if it screws up their cap structure but that means he will be UFA and lose him for nothing.
So the Rangers are exploring trade options.

He should be their primary target, ask if 5hey can talk to him and reach a deal. The kid is legit.

Totally agree. What seems to be lost in the bickering over Tre's performance, losing Gio, trading a 4th for a depth guy, etc is that this team MASSIVELY underperformed for two seasons in a row.
Crappy teams aren't supposed to lose good players in expansion drafts, but arguably, instead of losing a Bayreuther, we lost our captain and probably the best player taken from the 30 teams. We have good players, but they aren't assembled in a way that results in a winning team. He HAS to make a change.

The Rangers are trading him perhaps because of his cap hit, not wanting to pay it, and seeing him walk as a UFA in a year.
The aren’t trading him for a more expensive player signed for two years who is having multiple surgeries.
They want cheap players and futures.
