Not that it makes Treliving at fault, but at this point, Hajek looks like no more than a 5-6 guy. That's the type of guy that's pretty easily replaceable.

Yeah, this is true - but what is also true is Treliving managed to lose the best player in the expansion draft, and also give a new divisional rival assets (if this deal does happen).
This is just Treliving not being a proactive manager, and certainly not being one of the better GM’s in the league.

Gio has a limited NTC so I believe he has a small list of teams he can block a deal to. I doubt NY is on it.

I think they could've protected Giordano.

unfortunately there is something to be said about NHL general managers and player valuations

If this is true then wow, like I've been saying, I think Gio is still a good player and a lot of people have seemingly written him off as being old.
That's not true, he's a late bloomer that will play into his 40s. Losing Brodie was a big adjustment for Gio but he's going to be fine especially if gets paired up with a good young player where he (Gio) isn't the main guy pulling all the weight.

The Rangers seem like an odd landing spot for him. Are they going to be competitive next season? Is he the piece that puts them over the top?

Or the Rangers keep the young guy and get Gio

The situation happened because
- Gio managed to outperform his contract. Again - for most of it people were HOPING that Gio would be selected by Seattle in that final year
- Tanev exceeded expectations and thus justified a protection slot.

Gio's NTC is a 19 team "can be traded to" list.

Or Treliving could've recognized at last year TDL that it was a lost season and actually try to actively trade Gio before losing him for nothing...I love the "can do no wrong" crowd; until the Flames decide to move on from someone, then it's like "it is the perfect time to make a move."

Or they have been discussing this with Seattle for awhile and could have both.

Lol....
The NYR are using all their d-men protection spots. The Flames could not have traded Giordano there prior to the expansion draft. The Rangers acquiring Giordano, would have meant giving up Lindgren or Hajek for nothing.

Rangers seem like a team that can pop.
Lots of good young talent with some great in prime talent.

Huh? This makes no sense. Every team lost a player for nothing during the expansion draft. How are the Flames different?

Hold up, you might upset the "Treliving can do no wrong" crowd with this logic.

I can't help but think that Seattle may be prepared to make a really big splash and trade for Jack Eichel. They have draft picks, however much cap space they want, extra NHL players. They are in the best position to make that move

That would place Eichel on the sea and in the division of his white whale

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the post you quoted was sarcasm.
