Gonna be tough. We don’t have Hanowski anymore.

But to answer the question posed by the thread, and to quote Wesley Snipes from Passenger 57, “I’d shoot myself”.

How in charge we talking? Is ownership stuck on a win now mandate? Can I increase the budget for staff to levels that Toronto has? If I have the extra pockets to employ a robust operation in analytics, scouting, wellness, nutrition, sports psychology, that's interesting. That's what gives you an edge.

If not, well I'd probably decline the job. There's no voodoo I can do with trades or signings. I can't magically draft better than everyone else, not where I'm picking. And ownership won't let me tank. I'd be set up to fail. It doesn't look like an attractive job sorry!

It's because a US team can absolutely suck for a long time without major repercussions. It likely wouldn't even make front page news. Because in most of those markets, there are other things to keep the population occupied. This allows the front office with enough patience to stumble upon or accumulate generational talent or elite players which turn the franchises around and lead them to championships.

Where were the Penguins before Crosby/Malkin arrived?
Bruins?
Hawks?
Kings?

Bruins/Hawks are important teams where Hockey is loved but those cities also had the Red Sox, Patriots, Bears, Cubs etc.

It's because the fan pressure/media scrutiny in Canada is so intense that it forces front offices into making bad decisions which end up in disastrous cycles of sucking.
Agreed but with the caveat that having enough $$$ is also an edge that can shorten a rebuild if you've got a competent enough operation. The Leafs went through their 3 year rebuild, and they hit money on their tank picks, and then they started beefing up their whole operation, spent lavishly on their hockey ops and everything else. Now they have a legit shot with their group for the foreseeable future.

That would be an amazing trade but highly doubt you land Eichel with Monahan as the best player going the other way.

Might be off base but the 2022 draft doesn’t seem overly impressive past Wright. So tanking next year is a bit premature. I think a playoff run could happen next year but setting up to tank 2023 is my hopes. Look to ship out Backs around the deadline 2023.

- sign Gaudreau around 7.5m
- hope Monahan/Tkachuk look good next season, ship one/both out if the team is out of it early next year.
- look to ship out a young dman along with Dube for a higher end piece

I am one to keep Andersson, but I think he carries a lot more value than people think. He has more value than Monahan and probably a little lower than Tkachuk, when contracts are factored in. I also think Andersson would be a good partner for Dahlin.

I am a fan of Sean monahan, have been prior to the draft. Know his family a bit out here. Just a really good kid.

I just feel like he's hit a brick wall in his development and confidence. I really would love to see him traded this summer as I don't think he's going to be able to work out of his funk here, and think the flames are also better off moving on.

I would love to see a deal where we get perhaps a like aged top4 dman back or something.

This has a Hall-for-Larsson vibe to it...

If he has as much value as you think, they should trade him. He is very mediocre. I don’t see anything special, offensive or defensively

I think the brick wall he hit caused his injuries.

Whether he can overcome those injuries is the big question mark.

Trade Tkachuk+ to BUF for Eichel
Trade Backlund to Seattle
Get Seattle to draft Giordano in the expansion draft
Sign Hoffman as UFA
Sign Barrie as UFA and pair him with Tanev to protect him

Gaudreau-Eichel-Mangiapane
Pelletier-Lindholm-Hoffman
Dube-Monahan-XXXXX
Lucic-XXXXX-XXXXX

Barrie-Tanev
Hanifin-Andersson
Mackey-Valimaki

Markstrom

PP1

Gaudreau-Eichel-Hoffman
Barrie-Lindholm

PP2:

Pelletier-Monahan-Mangiapane
Hanifin/Valimaki-Dube/Lucic

Important point here is to give Pelletier a Top 6 role and put him in a position to succeed. I believe with the addition of Eichel/Hoffman/Barrie, it will improve the team's offence and powerplay. Monahan needs to be groomed as a more complete center. If the team needs to load up or if someone gets injured, Monahan can be moved to 2C while Lindholm moves up to 1RW.

Here's my proposal for massive core changes:

In my scenario Seattle takes Phillips (sorry scorp!) But they could also take kylington and it'd hold pretty much true.

Either Gio or Kylington will be a Kraken and out of your lineup. Not fatal either way. I do think you are in cap trouble in a year, unless Gaudreau lams it.

ETA - missed your edit about Phillips. I don’t think that happens.

This team has no untouchables. Trade MT for the best available player. Try to build a pipeline. Draft 1D, resign JG, trade MB, revive SM and trade him later. Build a D core. Get bigger and faster add scoring
