The top line had ONE shot and were minus 2. Pretty abysmal.

They gotta get Richie off that line...

He is a 4th liner.

I would try Lindholm on that line.

One thing about the Monahan-Gaudreau line tonight is that Sutter really fed them To the wolves.

Lots of ice time against Matthews and Marner. Heavy defensive zone starts.

Really feels like he’s trying to forge them in the fire and team them how to play better defensively.

Even had Monahan killing a penalty.

I think that's being generous.

I want to see Gaudreau-Lindholm-Dube. Gives the team a fast line that should be good at retrieving pucks. And all three guys can easily gain separation on breakouts. No more of Gaudreau trying to do everything all by himself while he waits for his linemates to get up the ice.

Then... Tkachuk/Backlund/Mangiapane. Monahan/Ryan/Leivo (or, preferably, Phillips).

Gaudreau may indeed be waiting for linemates a lot, but I didn’t see it tonight. For some reason Ritchie was doing a lot the attempted zone entries.

I don't think that's completely accurate, but I'll go back and look at their shifts.

I know that on Wednesday, that line attempted just eight controlled zone entries all game. Three ended with Ritchie turnovers.

They dumped the puck in 15 times and came away with possession twice. So... if Ritchie is supposed to be the one on that line retrieving pucks, he's not doing his job at all.

Lindholm getting the McDavid treatment on two lines?

He fed them to the wolves, and they got eaten alive by the wolves lol they were massacred every time they stepped foot on the ice

No wonder that they struggled...

The Leafs have last change, was it Sutter feed them to the wolves or Keefe feasting on them? Honest question.

Oops sorry, Tkachuk/Backlund/Mangiapane. That line is an excellent known quantity.

I think it was more that the Leafs had last change then trying to get Monahan and Gaudreau Reps out there, even a blind man can see they are our weakest defensive and unfortunately offensive line recently.

If you want to be a top line, you have to play against top lines. you can’t improve on that without getting thrown in. He’s asking for more from them.

Yeah, but Sutter must know if he gives them a D zone faceoff, Matthews is coming out with last change.

I like it. Enough with the random line blender, if the top line can't figure it out so be it.

Yeah this is what I think.

We hear it all the time. Sutter is all about giving you a guy you need match up against, and outplay him.

I have no doubt tonight he told Monahan you need to outwork Matthews, and told Gaudreau he needed to outplay Marner.

I kind of like it. These guys need to start being more hungry and be more confident going up against other top guys.

I don’t love pairing them with Ritchie if you’re going to do that to them though. Might want to put Dube or Mangiapane with them if you’re going to do that.

I still think Leivo should probably be with Lindholm and Tkachuk and Dube with Monahan and Gaudreau.
