Darryl will certainly help create an identity and some accountability. However, I still don’t think this team Treliving has assembled is good enough. Let’s hope I am wrong.

I don’t see Sutter saving this sad sad collection of players.

Your about to see what a real coach can do.

I saw it differently. After the Oilers made it 1-1 they resonded well as opposed to foling like they did in the past.

They played a good 60 minutes of hockey but got beat by one player and one player only. Hard to fault them for their efforts.

Season series is far from over though.

Sutter will transform the team in many ways, of that I have no doubt.

I thought a number #1 goalie was supposed to out perform other goalies.... especially Mike Smith. Not all on him but he hasn't lived up to expectations.

Looked liked all those checks in the first period made them gassed for 3rd period.
If they think Sutter is going to accept only one physical period they are in for a wake up call. Mony and Johnny were useless for last 40 minutes. That said they need a Rw . As much as they want lindholm at center , I think their best chance going forward is playoff lines.

I didn't enjoy listening to her, but I think it's basically a guarantee that the mandate from SNET is to talk about McDavid non-stop. Easiest proof is tonight's game.

1st intermission after he was invisible, and they show a montage of how good he was at taking contact...

2nd intermission and they show a highlight on him calling for the puck...

Why not spend the time focusing on other players that are doing actually interesting things? The way they force a CONSTANT storyline about everything McDavid does is seriously nauseating as a fan of another team.

Biggest problem with the team tonight is something that has plagued them all season. They play a perimeter game. It’s why we generate nothing during 5v5 play.

They’ll have to correct this, fast.

Totally disagree. We made Smith look good. First goal was first high chance on smith on first 20 shots later. We sure love shooting at his chest. Marky outplayed but we didn’t do our part offensively and continue with perimeter play

We don't have a bonafide first line, and no game changing stars. If this team is going to win it's not going to be on talent, it's gotta be team cohesiveness. Hopefully Sutter, can put this all together.

It is the same old story here so far - Flames just can't generate enough solid opportunities 5on5, and they give up a bit too much on their end.

I thought Lucic was really good tonight, and I felt he finally put the rest that he is too 'buddy buddy' with the Oilers still. He had some big hits, and he had a fight. I also thought he did a good job at both ends of the ice for the most part.

Backlund was off tonight, no question. Hustle was there, and at times he looked good, but just seemed a bit 'off' tonight.

I like how the team came to play today. Oilers pushed back, and the Flames I felt just didn't rise to the challenge enough. They need to do more against McDavid. Shut him down, limit Draisaitl, and the win is halfway there. Toronto figured that out. If you need to use a fast skater like Nordstrom on him all night, then do it. Maybe a combination of Backlund and Nordstrom as the shadows. Sheehy was tasked with that responsibility against Gretzky for a while. Take a page out of Badger Bob's book. That's what the Leafs did with Engvall.

I don't think it was fatigue on the Flames' part in the third (and some of the second). I think the Oilers stuck with it, pushed hard, and the Flames didn't push back nearly enough, and then they just get disjointed - passes suddenly start missing their mark, start picking up the wrong checks on the way back - looked like they got a bit rattled.

I have to say one thing - Ritchie looks like he is here to stay. Created opportunities for himself, was great along the boards, made some good plays, hustled back on the backcheck. I disagree with the Cassie saying that it was a soft call - I felt he was over-exuberant there, and taking out two guys one after another is bound to get a call against you, but other than that, I thought he had a really solid game. Great wheels. I bet he is Sutter's new Kyle Clifford.

Yeah, this team really needs Sutter.

That was my take too. Spirited effort the entire game. I will take that Flames effort any night.

Edmonton doing the usual double shifting of 97 and 27 nonsense to eke out the win.

Deserved better than 0 pts tonite.

Such a frustrating season. Running out of time.

a "real coach" won't win every game

If they had that effort every night their record would be better right now. Obviously there is still work to do but lets not act like it was 10-0

We didn’t give up a lot of high quality chances, neither did they. Smith made what little difficult saves were required, Markstrom did not.

But yeah, there’s no arguing this team’s incompetence at generating offence. It has to be fixed.

On the bright side I thought the effort was way better. Flames got beat by McDavid and to a lesser extent Smith.

Markstrom really needs to have that third goal. ####s from outside the dots need to be saved.
The bolded part is a huge problem. Don’t know if it is correctable.

I don’t buy the flames only Played 20 mins. The one line team stacked them up and they struggled the last half against that line. When that happens they have to covert on the 50% of the time the AHL squad is on the ice. They didn’t, so criticism warranted there. I didn’t see a 20 min game though. Effort was there. Emotion was there. Execution wasn’t.
