It never should have taken this long to put these lines together. Haha.
Ward was overthinking it.

Feels good though, like how many of us were screaming for those EXACT lines? Close to 20 feels like?

Where did I say anything like that?
All I am saying is these were lines that we know work, and it was game 22, with a record of 9-10-2 and an anemic offense before he tried it.

I hope the boys can continue this for the rest of the games in Ottawa and get some momentum.

Golly gee the Sens suck. Hard to believe that's the team that blew the Flames out last time. Makes me feel bad they lost to such a terrible team. Thankfully the Sens true colors showed tonight.
Angry Gio is awesome and I'm going to enjoy this win for a while as it's going to be far and few in between to see him play like that. But when it does happen, it's very enjoyable to watch .
Murray is horrendous and it's hard to believe he won a couple cups. But I respect him for being able to snag such a sweet contract for the next 4 years. Dude also gets millions of $ in raises every year for the next 4 years and that's the kind of game he'll be putting up regularly.
Going to be epic to watch how Melnyk tries his to screw him out of paying him down the road because guaranteed that's going to happen.

Every goalie has off years.
Price has had them.
Fleury has had stretches of years where he barely looks like he belongs in the league.
Roy didn’t get run out of Montreal because he was playing well.
Belfour was a backup in San Jose before he won his cup with Dallas.
Kipper has a few pedestrian seasons around his .920+ campaigns.
You give a player as good as Matt Murray every opportunity to show he can do the job, and you don’t hold it against him when he has the 2021 Ottawa Senators in front of him.

It’s only since the Vancouver trip that scoring has been a big issue. Before then they were averaging over 3 GPG, which is not bad.
Plus, those lines were actually not working well for the last part of last year, or at all in the POs. I think that was an issue for them. They thought the team was exposed. The “offensive eggs in one basket” was too easy to defend. I still think it’s not a good plan against a better team than Ottawa. It won’t work in the POs, IMO.

He’s been bad aside from how bad the skaters have been. Not Hoglund bad, but bad. I’m not saying he’s done. I’m saying he’s bad this year.

No doubt, this is the case.
Gotta ride it out when the guy’s ceiling is what it is.

When has Gaudreau ever lined up at RW, as far as I know the only time he played RW was at the WC and he looked fantastic. he made his LW linemate (Abdelkader) look like a star.
I would love to see
Monahan - Lindholm - Gaudreau

Yeah I think the bar for claiming success for those lines is too low. It’s been a long time since they’ve worked against good teams.
Trying a different approach on line combinations for 20+ games is pretty low on my list of complaints for this team.

Because they were the lines on a mediocre team that lost in the 1st round.
I don't see anything in last year's offensive stats, counting and advanced, that are better than middle of the pack.
Explain to me why I should be happy with a return to status quo.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm have been mostly below average since the 2019 all star break and not a good #1 line. They are too easily neutralized.
Lucic-Bennett-Dube are a 6-game wonder. They were invisible today.
I think Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane are a good line and were good today but I am a little disappointed that Tkachuk seems to need Backlund so much. I want him to be elite. I want Backlund to need him.
I want a team that isn't less than the sum of it's parts.

Long term I still think where you have centres who are very good but not like a Mackinnon, Matthews, McDavid, etc, like Monahan and Lindholm, you are best off if you can play them on different lines. The problem is that the RWs on Monahan’s line this year are sub par. I’m not talking “not first line quality”. I’m talking “of no use at all”.
Playing these guys together may be the best option for now, but when POs come, the team will look pretty thin and easy to defend. Hell, didn’t people think Tavares on a line with Matthews and Marner was easier to game plan for than if you had to deal with Matthews coming out and then Tavares on the next shift? Isn’t Edmonton weaker when they have to play Draisaitl and McDavid together?

As opposed to the lines on a borderline bottom feeder
Yeah ok
