I wonder what Ottawa’s record would be with average goaltending. Theirs is worse than Edmonton’s. All those games early on - neither Murray nor Hoglund were NHL goalies. They seem to have a number of good players. If they had, say Talbot level goaltending.

I've been saying it for a year or so now but Gio telegraphs every play he makes. Every shot is almost a double clutch or he takes so long to actually get a shot off that the defender is ready for it, almost waiting.

His Norris year it was all the same stuff but he got everything off without thinking, it was quick. Last two years, complete opposite.

You could see Johnny almost slam his stick on the ground after Gio’s weak shot killed the one play. I’m sure he was thinking “pass the damn puck.”

Gio definitely has to go back to instinct with his shots. He's been a 20 goal d-man, he has it in him.
Thinks too much, takes too long.

 Now a shin bruiser.

Maybe Johnny should concentrate on not giving the puck away on soft cross ice passes on the power play.

Lucic landed at least 3 good shots and broke open a knuckle.

But everybody loves those freshly baked hot Johnny apple turnovers.

I think part of Gio's problem is that he's lost a step, so where he used to walk the line a little bit before getting a shot away, now he just shoots it.

Even more painful is watching them try and gain the zone on the power play.

Gio is definitely not getting shots through this year, but it’s not exactly an exclusive problem. The Flames have had more deflected shots this year than I can remember

They would have won one or two Vs. Edmonton with average goaltending

Interesting back of the napkin stuff - if playing on the road is harder than playing at home due to quarantine, we've got the hardest schedule thus far.
 Cgy - 8hm 14rd
 Tor - 13hm 8rd
 Edm - 11hm 11rd
 Wpg - 11hm 8rd
 Mtl - 8hm 11rd
 Van - 13hm 11rd
 Ott - 11hm 12rd

He caught him with a few lefty's while holding his jersey, but no one was throwing haymakers. Lucic took it very easy on him.

The one where Hoglund was practically standing beside the goal instead of in front of it...

Today, Backlund’s should never go in. Lindholm’s was saleable but TBF the giveaway happened which made him less set.
