I am also tired of hearing others rehearse mistakes and disappointments by the team from years and seasons past at every opportunity.

Constructive criticism is good. Announcing repetitively how done you are is not.

We came back from 2 goals down to our hated rivals and then when forced into OT we won it quick and decisively.

Not even the hockey gods that seem to disfavour the Flames took it away when reviewed for offsides. And it was reaaaaal close.

I'm totally happy with that win. If others cant be, oh well.

I’m not sure if I would get lumped in as a negative Nancy, probably I guess. I know it sucks reading overly negative stuff and so for that, I apologize.

Sometimes I just post my opinions without thinking about how they’ll be interpreted. I guess they are overly negative maybe I dunno! This thread and the PGT from the MTL game have made me think about it.

I do wonder if it’s just that I find it easy to read about and discuss errors / mistakes, and solutions to those mistakes rather than a pile of positive stuff that we all already see and acknowledge. For example earlier I posted how unreal Lindholm’s goal was last night but I presume everyone saw it in all it’s glory and nobody needs others to point that out. It’s like it doesn’t need to be mentioned because yeah, obviously that goal was amazing .

I mainly gripe on about effort and that does bug me with this core. It’s a nebulous eye testy vague thing but I will try to not hammer on about it anymore. Pretty publicized what I think about their effort level. I guess what’s so frustrating is that I can see the potential. That if they just put in a bit more consistency game to game they truly could be elite. Like it’s almost there and they just need to believe in themselves and grab it. We have seen how dominant some of these players can be if they want it bad enough.

Anyway sorry for being overly negative I know that’s not fun to read either. I do love the Flames and will always be a fan no matter what just would prefer a group that leaves it out there every game, but maybe that’s just me personally and what I value in the team I cheer for most.

As a certified Tier 17 fan on the Kevin Lowe scale, I can only hope the CalgaryPuck Fan Police deem me worthy of a promotion to Tier 16 sooner rather than later. Gotta climb that Real Gud Fan ladder.

I honestly can’t say I have ever said or thought that or hoped for a loss to say I told you so and I agree that would be bizarre and ridiculous.

We’ll see, hopefully the Flames make the playoffs and do some damage. The biggest possible thing holding them back, is just their own mentality I believe.

Professional sports can be so weird. Elite athletes still get the yips or feel like they can do anything. Crazy how even at this level how much the mental aspect plays a role.

I am hoping the Flames can build off the last win. The thing I liked is the response after what could have been a devastating late tying goal. They went straight back and just won the game.

To be clear I wasn't directing that at you...there have been some posts of people wishing they lost in here though

PGT after a win and some Flames fans are more salty then the ATL

You see, it all started in 1980 when an American team relocated to the city of Calgary. Over the next 3000 words, I will present a detailed history of disappointment, hopes made and stolen, and why I, as a fan, did not care to watch the very game we’re supposed to be discussing today...

Although I'm guilty of this, only because I have been a die hard for so long, I agree. It probably isn't fair to discuss 30+ years of failures when talking about the current group. Although I think their is a correlation to managements commitment to bring in the correct management team to the mediocrity.

I think most peoples frustration with the current squad stems more from the traits and habits they've shown us from the last 6 years they've been together.

However make no mistake I'm happy when they score and curse when they give up one. Ultimately we can all agree we want the Flames to win a cup someday, how they can get to that point is where we all differ.

I think they did not want to score a PP goal into an empty net plus give the Canucks a point to inch closer to the No goods. Plan worked. Scored a legit PP goal and Coilers were the only Canadian team to not pick up a point that night!

In 1967 the Leafs won the cup.

The youngest person who remembers this was likely 4 years old.

With a birthdate in 1963, they would now be 58 years old.

The life expectancy for someone born in 1963 is 70 years.

This means the Leafs’ last cup win will start to pass out of living memory by 2032.

That morbid thought and looking at those actuarial tables was more fun than the post-Gaskal posts in this thread.

I mean, heaven forbid we have different types of fans on this board. Heaven forbid some people see the bigger picture and are of the opinion that losses at this point would actually be better for the franchise. And if one does think that, they shan't mention it anywhere on this board!

Leave it to CP to completely blow things out of proportion. I defended a guy's opinion that losses would be better for the franchise, in his opinion. An opinion I happen to agree with.

Hyperbole like this never helps. Two separate pieces of hyperbole there actually. Never once did I say I don't care about the Calgary Flames. I care very much about this franchise and it's long-run success. I still watch most games. I follow the draft and prospects, listen to the Fan every morning.

What I did say is while I still enjoy winning games and beating our rivals, I worry that it's actually a detriment to the long-term success of this team, which to me is defined as winning a Stanley Cup. I'm tired of this franchise being mediocre, and the only path to getting past that (in my opinion) is by breaking down this core.

Perhaps you guys have different definitions of success, and that's fine. My original post was defending what was just Mattman's opinion. Did I chime in ONCE in a GT saying "I don't know why you guys tuned in"? Yea, as per Jiri's detective work. I guess that was me wondering how you guys stay so invested, but apologies if I rained on anyone's parade. I literally don't understand how you can be with this core, but that's not up to me to decide for you, so I apologize for that.

Now notice how many times the word "opinion" is used.

Then don't chime in, or read them? I did happen to chime in, and I responded to people's critiques of my opinion, of which I defended.

So you enjoyed that then? Is that what I'm supposed to take from the "don't read them then" response?

I don't have that skill (or software) to jump past chaos effortlessly when I want to read about a hockey game.

Unfortunately I have to skim through it all in hopes of seeing something that is actually interesting.

I'm not a censor guy. People can have any reaction they want. But if you step into a site that is almost 100% fans of a sports team and either hope they lose or suggest it's not worth watching you're going to get a lot of reaction.

Maybe that's what you wanted.

I'd rather talk about hockey personally.
