If Bennett could garner top line skill he wouldn’t be traded.

ETA: Virtanen has a skill set that the team doesn’t have at present. He has huge issues IQ wise but he skates fast, shoots hard, and hits.

The only reason I entertain a Bennett / Virtanen swap is because Virtanen seems to always score in the Saddledome.

I mean...yes it would be great if they could turn bennett into something but there is still a truth attached to him...he isnt very good himself, so anything coming back isnt gonna be much better. We are dealing a 3rd/4th line guy here...what is the value of that?

Eakin is just the type of return that is going to happen....if its 1 for 1. If he is part of a package then maybe there is a better chance.

Or I could be dead wrong and am misreading how coveted he might be elsewhere....just not seeing it.
 |
While I agree that Bennett doesn't have a lot of value, age does have to play a factor.

Bennett is still a RFA at the end of his deal and is only 24.

Eakin is 29 (few months from 30), a year away from UFA status and is another left handed shot. Him specifically doesn't make a lick of sense IMO.

I don't do a swap with Vancouver because they're not a trading partner in all this. I outlined what I thought was a viable trade before - Pittsburgh Bennett and a 2nd for Kapanen. Or you go for the draft pick and also help out Bennett and you deal to Detroit for a second rounder. You're not stuck to trade with Vancouver guys.

Yeah and then we are without a player for 2 weeks, which in a shortened season is a long time.

I could see management hesitant about trading with a rival in case in blows up in their faces, not that I personally feel its much of a risk.

Also, Kapanen had the exact same amount of points last year as Virtanen

Well if they are just going to scratch Bennett than it doesn’t really matter.

I think most would recognize Kapanen is a better player.

Calgary is the one who likely needs to make a trade involving Bennett. And it’s lot like Calgary is lighting the league on fire.

Saw an article on Sportsmen today proposing Pierre Engvall for Bennett. Thoughts?

No trade to another Canadian team unless it’s a ridiculous overpay in favour of the Flames.

CBC was just talking during the intermission about Benning feeling the heat. If things don't change for the Canucks in a hurry they are going to be too far behind the eight ball. The Canucks have played 3 more games than anyone in the division. Calgary will have 5 games in hand on them before the start of tonight's game.

With a clear top 3 in the Canadian Division, it’s starting to look like it’ll be a race between the 2 Alberta teams with the Canucks unraveling a bit. Holtby and Myers’ bewildered faces said it all tonight.

He's HUGE, and can really skate, but he's a bit vanilla to me. He can forecheck well, and uses his size-but not too much of a hitter. Doesn't strike me as having good hands, or a particularly high IQ. More of a role player, pretty good penalty killer.

They showed a few clips of Holtby and Miller kinda beaking each other after goals during the intermission segment.

Hopefully we can beat up on them a little bit next week. We play Winnipeg on Tuesday and then four straight against the Canucks.

He’s like a Mark Jankowski but worse.
Stay far away, we have exactly what he is in Buddy Robinson but at least buddy throws the body around from time to time.

seems like a fairly even trade in a lot of ways tbh...

A guy I've always like is Andreas Johnsson - not sure if the Devils would do the trade, but something along those lines would be a good trade imo

guys like Thompson or Middlestadt would be a roll of the dice, as they haven't really done much at all so far, but Buffalo might be a team that really wants to capitalize on doing something this season - Bennett, if he can ever find consistency, might be the kind of player that could bring some energy (though i admit to not watching a lot of Buffalo this year)
