Pts/60 minutes played is such a horse#### stat though. It is not a fair measure because quality of opposition is not factored into the mix. This is why I don't like advanced stats or the crowd who rely on them for their argument, is they don't truly understand stats and methodology for collection and comparison. Hockey is based on chaos and team play. You can't take something as general as shots or points generated and think they are equitable measures.

I'm not pulling random numbers like "Bennett's fenwick against when playing Canadian teams is superior so ... " to make a point.
And I thank you for recognizing how ridiculous that would be.

It's points normalized for ice time, and honestly the best ranking of production by NHL forwards you can use.
It's not normalized because the variables that would normalize the data are not considered. To actually make these stats give you realistic models it would take much more data on quality of competition and situational data. Those don't impact the model in any way, so it pretty much invalidates the result. Bennett produces x points per sixty minutes playing against some really weak competition. Gaudreau produces y points per game playing against the best the competition has to offer. They are not comparable numbers. Very different influences on their ability to produce which never enters into the equation. Those variables greatly matter and should make it obvious to not use those measures.

Sorry it doesn't fit well with your narrative, nor your need to grandstand with hyperbole.
Hyperbole? 12 ####ing points dude. On a trend for 6 this season. Hyperbole that one way.

Just because a trade isn't 'imminent' doesn't mean it's not trade related to scratch him. Teams could be worried about an injury but still have details to hammer out, he could be scratched for the next 4 games before something happens. Plus it's not like a team has ever lied about a trade being close.

It's definitely trade related. Doesn't nessesarily mean he's getting traded today

who cares where he wants to play? you're getting paid a couple of million dollars. do your ####ing job.

I agree. I feel like the team knows its over for Sam here, and I think this benching along with the story from last week is too much media fodder, which they aren't going to want as an ongoing distraction. He'll be traded within the next week or two is my guess. Like I said before, this is way too much focus for a not very important player. They just need to move on quickly.

Guys like Bennett, Lucic, Ryan need to step up and start chipping in. What have they given the Flames aside from being completely overmatched whenever on the ice this year? 5 points combined while counting for roughly $9 million against the cap?

That kind of dough comes with expectations that you should be at least chipping in every few games with something more than not taking penalties or winning a few draws.
What has Backlund done?

2G, 2A - one G was an m/t netter.

It's also possible that Bennett is simply injured. He did seem banged up by the end of the last game. Don't wanna hurt trade talks by saying he has a lower-body injury, so sit him and hint that it's a classic case of just scratching the guy that wants out.

jeez, I really want to have Bennett+ for Rakell. He'd be a perfect fit here.

I’m calling it now. Detroit. I hope it’s free if they take on Lucic. Elsewise the flames will never get value for Bennett in a one for one. That’s my thought personally.

It has begun. So long Sam Bennett. I've always been a big fan. My brother more so. Especially after him meeting and hanging out.

Nothing but the best. Good luck wherever you end up.

The playoffs is a pretty big situation to be put in. Somehow Bennett seems to thrive

Why would Lucic waive to go to the Wings?

Thank god he won't be going to the Canucks. Although we'd be on the Powerplay a lot if he did, and that's not a bad thing

Does he? Or has he simply had some good puck luck?

I am thinking it might be a luck thing over such a small sample size.
