Did you know that over 20% of all sites hit from web browsers on cell phones are porn related? Doesn't matter which company although those stats are for Telus, I assume that they're similar throughout. 20%!!!! One in 5! Telus tried to make it age restricted, but because of protests, we're going back to 10c/page of porn.

Had they used that little statistic, I think the protests would've been much quieter.

I don't think you could quiet the anti-porn contingent by trying to tell them how prevelent and readily available porn is; nor does it do any good to talk about how this is already done in Europe or how it actually protects children. It's a far more emotional issue, and the fact is that ever since buying the Clearnet marketing campaign, Telus has portrayed themselves as this clean, friendly, safe environment. The idea of profiting from the porn industry really went against the public image that Telus had created for themselves. You can't have it both ways, wanting the public to love your corporate image and then profiting from porn. Perhaps the soundtrack for the next Telus cuddly animal commercial should be "It's hard out here for a pimp," as that seems to sum up their predicament.

Excellent point about current marketing strategy. Didn't even think about what their current strategy says to the population at large, but they could have combined the information to say that in order to be cleaner, friendlier, and safer, Telus is putting in these restricitve measures. Either way, they handled it all wrong.

The funny thing is it was just nudie shots. Not even "real" porn. What kind of chronic wanker would pay 3 bucks for a 2 inch picture of a naked woman (or man) I don't know, but that's all it was. You'd think any guy who needs to have 24 hour access to pornography wouldn't be satisfied with just boobies.

I got a call from this lady who was so out raged over this that she is willing to pay 480 cancel fee to cancel her service. She was going crazy, saying that no self respecting catholic was ever going to stay with TELUS.
By this time i was getting a little bit ****ed off myself over the amount of negativity the Arch Bishop was spewing at TELUS, I asked the lady how is Phone porn worse than child molestation? I think it caught her off guard, I asked about how priests were allowed to molest little boys but the boys were not allowed to watch porn on their cell phone,

I had her crying on the phone, and it was great to hear.
Maybe if we had little boys naked on the phone then the Arch bishop would be signing up to TELUS to get service.

No kidding. I certantly hope that that call was not monitored for quality control.

This has nothing to do about children. It has to do with absentee parents trying to outlaw anything to get them off the hook. These are the same video game naziis that want to ban everything that isnt Japanese Pokeman.

Though, putting porn on cell phones does increase the chance of porn being visible in public areas. I know I personally don't want to see some fat guy on the CTrain slobering over some naked midgit he just downloaded on his cell.

Right because postcards you can get on the streets of Amsterdam should be widely available to minors (under age 10).

This issue has to do with the freedom of choice of a large private company should be able to offer a service for a fee to customers but you get the bs "MADD" crowd on every issue under the sun.

It could be that Telus actually wants the 10 cent page users and they purposefully mis-marketed it so that they could say they tried but no one wanted it. Would be smart buisness tactics if you ask me from a company who desparately needs to find some bright lights to guide the ship.

????? We make way more money off the $3/download than we do off the 10c/page. Also, how do you figure they need bright lights to guide the ship? #1 Wireless Company in Canada, fewest dropped calls, lowest churn, etc, etc... the list goes on and on. The landline department actually was in the black last quarter for the first time in years.

Well, she certainly lives in a dream world. I would imagine that the number of Catholics that view porn is roughly the same as the generally population. From my experience, people tend to be the same regardless of religion.

So in the public interest I decided to check out what my Rogers cell phone service had to offer for smut. Turns out you can get lots of pron just by going to the Rogers Mall. No age restrictions, nothing. So I guess Rogers just kept quiet about what they're offering.

Yikes. That counts for something alright, but it's a lot worse than porn.

My point is that pretty much every guy you or I may know got a look at Playboy or something when they were a young kid, and the world hasn't come crashing down. Obviously you want to keep the smut away from kids, but let's be reasonable. If a kid happens to sneak a look at a nudie shot he is not going to be corrupted for life.
