WPG gets an extra year of contract with PLD too with a very affordable QO when that time does come....thats a very big deal these days and real currency in a trade like this.
My guess is that PLD has a far better career than Laine when all is said and done too....but no way t know that for another decade.

Roslovic = Bennett imo
Monahan + 1st = Laine
Monahan + 1st + Bennett would have been equivalent imo.

Really weird that a good young center gets dealt and that the Flames are unable to snap him up. Usually they take full advantage of situations like that lol.

Wouldn’t surprise me that after the Anderson rumors before the draft that Momahan put Columbus on his NT list

I said I wasn't really optimistic at all this time.
Hence, why I am moving on to the next player fans think the Flames might acquire.

Unbelievable that Columbus comes out of this situation on top.

As a Flames fan, I would rather play against a Winnipeg Jets team that has PLD , than one that has both Laine and Roslovic in the lineup. Unfortunately for Jets fans, their team got worse today in my opinion.

The biggest most impactful deal made by an NHL team in 2021 was to rip a vezina quality goalie from a divisional rival and away from another divisional rival, for free. Some people see it. Some people think it's not as cool because it's "just a goalie". That move turned this team into a contender faster than had we obtained a #1 C for free. Any Dubois deal would have been to marginally upgrade a position if at all.

Exactly. Flames were never going to beat that offer from the Jets, and Jets would have never made that trade if Laine and Roslovic weren't forcing the Jets hand as well. Really, considering the circumstances, I think both teams came out OK in this trade. It made the most sense for both sides. And at least they both get back good value rather than getting pennies on the dollar like most malconent trades usually end up going.

Kekalainen is truly one of the best in the game at his craft.
Scary to think what he could do with a more solid franchise and destination city.

I don’t see how you can outbid that for Dubois and expect the team to get better.
So a good thing to walk away from IMO.

Seems like an overpay from Winnipeg.

Not the same at all. Johnny trains in the off season, Laine doesn't. Apples to oranges. One has fought tooth and nail to get where he is, the other is running off naturally gifted talent.

This.
Well said.
Both teams come out OK on this. One just a little bit more IMO.
A win/win trade is good for hockey.
