Pierre-Luc Dubois has not played in 20 minutes of game time. The player remains on the #CBJ bench.

Sure would be nice to get a reverse Marc Savard! We're due!

Yeah, PLD will be traded in 72 hours. Its amazing how fast things accelerate.
Or, Torts gets the boot. One or the other.

Almost wonder if he is getting traded as we speak and the team getting him has asked he not play? Just going through ownership approval and contacting the other party?

aka The Cammalleri
usually though, in that situation, they would take him off the bench

Do you think they'll trade PLD for Ruslan Zainullin's rights? Calgary still owns them!

that's just garbage from Torts. You can't do that to a player and expect any kind of positive result stemming from it.
Just gasoline on a fire

Torts handling of the situation is not surprising.
Hopefully the Flames offer is good enough for Jarmo to be picking up the phone and dialing Treliving right now.

I wonder how much this stunt cost Kekalainen in terms of bargaining power?
Not a good look for the player or coach, but Torts may have just submarined his GM here.

Portzline says Torts isn't the reason that Dubois wants out of Columbus. That may have changed tonight.

Dubois brought that benching on himself with that “effort” immediately prior.

That has to be the end of Dubois in Columbus.

Torts did something similar to Martin St. Louis in Tampa. When St. Louis first got to Tampa, he allegedly told the coach that he needed top line ice time in order to perform at his best. Torts, so the story goes, put him on the 4th line and sometimes even refused to play him and let him stew on the bench for most of the game. St. Louis went scoreless in his first 20 games and then out of the blue, Torts put him on the top line and St. Louis never looked back. Torts put a chip on his shoulder and it made him a much more effective player.
Not that I condone these kinds of mind games, but maybe something similar is going on. Dubois has some serious unrealized potential. He has been good so far, but probably not as good as he could be. It's definitely a gamble doing it with a player that has pedigree compared to one the came to town on a league minimum.
Keenan was a master at mind games as a coach, but it eventually caught up with him. Torts could find himself in a similar situation if he isn't careful.

Torts was right to bench him. Did anyone see the play that lead to it? He’s mailed it in and a detriment to the team, at least based on that one play alone. It was “controller disconnected” part 2.

Either way you want to spin the story of if its PLD checking out or Torts gaslighting, its a dimishining return every period PLD is a Blue Jacket. His value as of now was highest when he asked for the trade. It only lessens now.

Another good quote from Torts
Quote:
“I’ve coached Luc like this for a couple of years, as far as trying to get him to get some growth in his game and growth as a pro.” - John Tortorella on benching Pierre-Luc Dubois
|
I’d still trade for him but as I’ve said in this thread before he’s not the 200 ft Center that people think of him as and defensively he’s still a work in progress
