If they're lucky. I think that the Nucks and Oilers will be swimming with the fishes and into selling mode by game 30.

Really? I'm thinking its going to be lower than that.

Realistically they should have a good shot in a truncated season riding their two horses, but the rest of the team is horri-bad.

Mcavi looked very regular last night. Have to wonder if residual COVID from his summer infection+condensed schedule will affect his ability to perform. The oilers will fight for worst in the league if he plays more games like that.

That was a telling tale of reality. 21 players are inconsequential

Quote of the night after the Habs 4th goal by the commentators, 'Not even Mcavid could get back in time'

As the broadcast crew said last night "They'd never seen Conna more frustrated. Not that they're making excuses for him that in the first three games after a long break that he's looked awful in two games, and ripped up a bad Canucks defense in the other one. He's regular because he's already pulling the chute because he's probably not going to win an individual trophy.

And get ice cream with Sprinkles after every game.

I actually thought the quote of the night was immediately after that same goal, watching the replay of the two-on-one and the puck entering the net, Louie DeBrusk says, "How often have we seen that?"

Edmonton Hockey Team looking for amateurs to fill goaltending position.

Toronto or Winnipeg Kijiji maybe?

Quite often, Louie

The Oilers have given up 10 - TEN - 5on5 goals already this season. Plus a shortie, for a total of 11 while even strength or man advantage.

The next closest is Chicago, who are the early favorites to finish 31st, with 8, and they started with 2 on the road against the cup champs.

Toronto or Winnipeg Kijiji maybe?
They are effed. Kostinen is swimming with the fishes and they have no choice but to keep playing him. Skinner can't be liking what he is watching. Another thrashing by Montreal and this team will unravel.

Next 7 games they play Montreal once, Winnipeg twice, and Toronto 4 times. With the way they are playing, they could be in quite the hole.

@FriedgeHNIC
I am curious to see if EDM claims Dell and tells him to wait for them in Toronto. Oilers are there this week. That opens some options

Is there some sort of rule that allows players being waived and then claimed across the border to be put on the COVID list while they quarantine? I noticed both Eric Comrie and Anton Forsberg were placed on the COVID list after being claimed (even though I’m not sure Forsberg even left Canada when Carolina initially claimed him). Seems like a way to temporarily stash a third goalie without having to take up a roster spot.

And I can only imagine the calls Holland is receiving from teams looking to “help” them out. I’m guessing Winnipeg offered him Forsberg for a first round pick plus David Putney because the Bombers need a punt returner.

Maybe Mike Smith is smarter than we thought:

So, over on the other board some Oilers fans are not worried...

You see, it is not that the Oilers are bad, rather, it is because they are so damn good. Apparently the super-special skilled teams all take a few games to get going, while the grindy-pumpkin teams pile up wins with talentless flopping and hacking. Because the Oilers are awesome, it may take until Game 10 or 15 before they reveal their dominance.

But alas, you know things are truly bad in Edmonton when...

I know it's Oiler fans, so arguing is pointless, but I would argue that the opposite is true:

Offense comes naturally, defense takes work. Typically, we see offensive players (and young players in particular) doing well early, but then the strong defensive teams, and older players, slowly take over.

So far, there have been a little over 6 goals per game, which is above the average of the last few years (last year there were 5.07 GPG). SO about 20% above last year's average so far.

Yeah I honestly saw the exact opposite argument in Oiler circles a few days ago.

McDavid will have an even more impressive start than usual because of the lack of preseason games and teams not ready to go.
