Monahan + 2021 2nd (2021 1st if the Flames make the playoffs). If the Flames miss the playoffs, then the Jackets receive a 2022 2nd as well. That's already more than enough imo, Monahan has the better track record.

No worries there, Monahan is soft as butter. He is never going to play a gritty game. I think Torts would be screaming at him within the first couple of games.

Not saying it's the most likely, but entirely possible that is a reason no deal has happened.
Kekalainen: "Hey Torts, you want Monahan instead?"
Tortellini: "Eff that. I'd rather yell at PLD.'

Try to play a gritty game? Hahaha.
You don't think any coaches in Calgary have tried to get Monahan to use his size to his advantage?
He doesn't have it in him.

Might work if Chiarelli was their GM.
Jarmo knows his stuff and isn't as easily fleeces.

I've always wondered about the 10-game suspension he got in junior for elbowing (I believe).
Did it shake him up so bad that he got gun shy about being a hard hitter?

I can't see Columbus wanting Monahan, they will wait for something a little shinier...and not sure how pressed they are to trade him

My question is who exactly is shinier that a team is willing to trade? Columbus most likely will want a center back that can play now but not too old, they would have to add a lot to get anyone a lot shinier than Monahan.
And yes they're pressed because it's public knowledge that Dubois wants out.

There's been rumours of teams offering some pretty impressive wingers (ie.Laine) but no rumours of young(ish) Centers going back to CBJ-if they get rid of PLD, all they have is Domi as a top-shelf C. A package involving Mony is our only real hope, and they may not even want him.

If Laine was available that’s interesting but if he doesn’t like Winnipeg he probably isn’t going to like Calgary.
You’d also need to line up a trade of Gaudreau for a center then.

Also all options need to be explored with our top line forwards. Not interested in watching 55 more games of button hooks and not interested.
Their play is what it is and this has all been made abundantly clear amd literally hundreds of people have said after last playoffs blow it up. This isn’t some Treliving and faux management is smarter than the fans #### here. Blow it up. And let’s be crystal clear when we say blow it up it means specifically Monahan and Gaudreau. Oh yeah and before you all come in here saying “it’s only 1 game” and “you’re overreacting” my reply is no- it’s been min 18 months of this or more actually and nothing has changed to expect different outcomes. These guys have got their life earnings, they aren’t interested in working anymore and they don’t care more about winning than whatever it is they’re doing so time to move on.
It’s going to happen so just do it now not burn another season and lose your job Treliving. Sometimes addition by subtracting works in asset management.

If Dubois is a trade possibility with a Monahan or Gaudreau centerpiece going back, I'd be very, very interested.
I think trading Gaudreau before it's too late still makes the most sense in terms of pure asset management but as mentioned I'm not sure how interested Columbus would be.

CBJ would be looking for guys that are going to be around for a while, they've been bleeding top end talent because guys don't want to sign there. I don't think Gaudreau or Monahan are very enticing for them.

Yeah, I don't see a fit unfortunately as I'm not sure we have what Columbus would want back and I wouldn't move Lindholm or Tkachuk personally.
Sounds like the Flames had a trade lined up for Josh Anderson and one of the CBJ goalies before things fell apart (due to Anderson's contract demands? due to Markstrom's mutual interest in signing here?).
Wonder what would have been in that package from Calgary.

I would trade Gaudreau out of any of them. I think we have seen the best of him and I don't expect him to reach a point per game again. He is a slightly better version of Kristian Huselius, but with a bigger name. I think it would be foolish to not trade him and use his notoriety to get a better deal.
For Dubois, I am sure Columbus would want a 1st and a prospect back if it was Gaudreau.
Lindholm needs to stay and I would prefer to keep Monahan too.

I believe Bennett was being talked about in rumors (as usual), and at one point Hanifin? Whatever it was, they liked Domi better....
